Who's the greatest kick returner you've ever seen? Why?

James Jones comes to mind, but the indoor game hasn't really embraced the kick return as part of the game by not making the penalty harsh enough to dissuade teams from kicking out of bounds

I agree the whole kick the ball out of bounds so the other team gets it at the 20 is becoming the staple of kickoffs, rather dull.

Yeah, that one was easily predicted when the penalty moved it from midfield.
The AIFA at least got that part right - if you're not going to penalize teams for kicking it out of bounds, at least give them the incentive to kick it through the uprights.

I'm not so sure I'd agree with that part, seems kinda gimmicky as it's a relatively easy kick for kickers at this level; off a tee with no rush.. no snap no spot, plus it's not seen at any level of outdoor football. One thing I've considered that might be at least entertaining is doing away with the traditional kickoff rather make it a punt (think post nfl safety) make it a safety (2 points) if the runner doesn't get out of the end zone, and the kicking team get's the ball back. Live off the wall, THAT would make it pointless to kick it out of bounds, no fair catches CFL style "yards" and you have totally brought the kick return to the indoor game. makes for interesting onside kicks as well I'd think. but then again, I'm just a fan. I totally unimportant to the teams in the indoor game. Why should my attention matter... grrr I smell another rant at the Storm front office coming...another time in another thread..

Darrick Wallace is one hell of a ball returner, although he may not be the best. Rico Reese is another up and comer that should be at the top of the list in the next few years.

Yeah, I totally agree with you in that it doesn't seem like it'd be interesting to have the 'UNO' kick rule like that. But AIFA fans seem to really enjoy it. And you've been spoiled...most indoor kickers aren't Adam Hicks and can't do that very much. It doesn't happen as often in the AIFA as you'd think it would...but I have been surprised at how much the fans do enjoy that. But I'd rather have kick returns.

I'm partial to Courtney Grixby and OJ Simpson myself, both have had many electrifying kick returns for touchdowns and many can be found on youtube.

Best special teams player for me is Mike Jones, he's made some of the most amazing one-handed ankle grab tackles I've ever seen.
