I noticed that Michael Bazemore was signed by Sioux Falls today, and it got me wondering where all of the Outlaws Championship team ended up. So, I did a little research using the Transactions on goifl.com to see what happened. Some of it surprised me.
Looking at the players that were on their roster at the time of the Championship: (best I can tell anyway... and I don't know why this adds up to 31 players, but that is what I saw)
Numbers as of 1/5: - 16 have still not signed anywhere (more than half) - 6 signed with Kent (less than I expected, based on the discussions) - 4 signed with Sioux Falls - 2 signed with Omaha - 2 signed with Wenatchee Valley - 1 signed with Nebraska
Updated List, as of 1/28/11: - 14 have still not signed anywhere (more than half) - 9 signed with Sioux Falls (some via Kent) - 2 signed with Kent - 2 signed with Omaha - 2 signed with Wenatchee Valley - 1 signed with Bloomington - 1 signed with Nebraska - 1 signed with Richmond
Not Signed: Cory Richardson Eddie Linscomb Tyrell Henderson Antwan Bloom Pernell Booth Travis Browne Anthony DeGrate Robert Okeafor Garret Palmer Muhammad Shamsid-Deen Carl Sims Chris Turner DeAngelo Woodie Rashad Cummings
Sioux Falls: Chris Dixon Michael Bazemore Charlie Sanders Myniya Smith Jovan Jackson Kelly Rouse Armond Willis (via Kent) Gerald Davis (via Kent) Kadafi Tunsil (via Kent)
Kent: Tim Brown Michael Eby
Omaha: Jervonte Jackson Travonti Johnson
Wenatchee Valley: Fred Holmes Bobby Daly Bloomington: James Walton (via Kent)
Nebraska: Michael Pace
Richmond: Tyrrell Herndon (via Kent)
Note: There were 9 additional players that signed with Billings in the offseason (after the Championship, but before the team folded) most of them went to Omaha, Sioux Falls, and Kent since then.

Great job on this.
Bazemore going to Sioux Falls is HUGE. They were already the overwhelming favorite to me going in, to not win the title now would be a catastrophic upset/fail...like when the Giant's beat the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl (that was awesome).
I can't see a valid reason for the IFL to release the Kent signee's from their contracts this year, unless Kent doesn't play. Let's face it, coaches and owners change all the time and players aren't released, so for the IFL to release their rights would almost be admitting that they were getting paid under the table (why else release them...answer...no valid reason). So those players would probably have to take a year off or have to play in another league for this year.

If they don't release them, they would count against their 30 man roster. Guessing a couple of them migrate down south and a few will stay and play.. If you look at their roster, Oneal had assembled a pretty competitive looking team. They have a legit qb, defensive player of the year and some pretty good new recruits.. Kent will still be competing for the division title assuming they exist! and yes, Bazemore is a HUGE signing for the Storm

Valid Reasons: They don't want to play in Kent, Washington anymore because they were: 1- Lied to 2- Aren't getting paid 3- Signed under false pretenses 1. Owners change all the time and players aren't given their release. They MAY have been told they were getting X-amount of money under the table and now that probably won't happen, but how can you complain about that if you're not supposed to be getting it in the first place. 2. Aren't getting paid?...they haven't played a game yet have they? Also, I remember O'Neal saying as he left that the players hadn't arrived there yet. 3. False pretenses? Again, owners change all the time and players weren't given their release. If they ARE given their release, I sure would like to know the reason. The only reason acceptable is if Kent doesn't play or if they do a trade IMHO.

That would be the nice thing for the potential new Kent ownership to do, but they wouldn't be required to do it. That is true, they would count against their roster and six or more players is too many to try to hold on to. I've seen teams hold on to a guy they had a dispute with, but that's just one spot...this is too many. Depending on how good the new Kent ownership is, there may be other players wanting their release besides the ex-Billings players. Remember, O'Neal is gone and I'm sure most of them were going there because of him. If Kent does play, I'm predicting them to be at the bottom of the division...they're behind the 8 ball right now.

What happens if they hold on to the players until camp opens then place them on the R2R (refusal to report)? Do they get their outright release or are they banned from playing elsewhere in the league, with Kent retaining their rights?

Don't quote me on this but I believe they can sign with another team but would have to sit 3 games or the oweners would need to agree on a buyout up to $1000.

I do know sitting 3 games is true since O.J. Simpson had to do that when he left Sioux City for Omaha 2 seasons ago.

Not sure how much to trust it, but the new Kent website has a Roster section that only lists ONE of the Billings players. On the Home page it says they have signed 13 players for 2011, and then links to this. This is listed as their 2011 Roster: www.kentpredators.net/Roster.htmlHowever, you can also get to this list on their site, that includes all 6 Billings guys, and many more... www.kentpredators.net/TeamRoster.html

www.kentpredators.net/Roster.htmlhas three Outlaws, Walton Ellis and Eby, and to be honest they are perhaps the least likely to play in Kent. I wouldn't be surprised to see Eby in SF and Walton in Colorado. (based purely on need and conjecture) Ellis, no clue.

I intentionally didn't count Ellis since he wasn't part of the mass release of Billings players after they folded. I admit I don't know his history, was he on the Outlaws when they won in 2010? or there a previous year? The other was a miss on my part. Sorry. I should have said 2 were from the Billings 2010 Championship team. Either way, my real curiosity is where are the other 4, and why are they not listed? (Tim Brown, Gerald Davis, Tyrrell Herndon, Kadafi Tunsil) Did they figure something out with them? Officially they are Signed with Kent, but not listed on this list on their site.

My guess is that we'll see all Eby, Walton, Brown, Tunsil other places.. either buyout or refusal to report... The moved to Kent to play with coach o.. I expect them to wind up in Omaha, Colorado and Sioux Falls

Looks like Eby will play for the Pred's. He's showing up to a promotional event there 2night (from the Pred's facebook page):

Looking at the transactions for today, Kent is losing former Outlaws right and left (and for "Future Considerations" none the less):
- James Walton was traded to Bloomington - Gerald Davis and Kadafi Tunsil were traded to Sioux Falls. (and Armond Willis too who appears to have signed with Billings after the season, but before they folded)
That doesn't leave many at Kent anymore...
