IFL's "Kickoff Classic Weekend" Recap
The Indoor Football League’s “Kickoff Classic Weekend” birthed two great contests, proving the 2011 season to be the most exciting yet.
The weekend’s match ups started in La Crosse, WI where the Spartans hosted the Chicago Slaughter. La Crosse’s QB position was shared both by Ryan Mauri (108 yds, 2 TD) and Buddy Rivera (93 yds, 3 TD) who threw for a combined 201 yards, and 3 touchdowns. The Spartans other two scores are credited to a QB rush by Mauri, as well as a solid run from RB LaRon Council. The Slaughter showed a well rounded running game inside the 25 as RB Daniel DuFrene posted 7 rushes for 34 yards and 3 TDs. Spartans fought to bring the game close several times only to see two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach at 69-48 F.
The Bricktown Brawlers visited their division rival West Texas Roughnecks this Monday night. Bricktown Brawlers a new team to the Indoor Football League made a strong debut, as IFL newcomer Reggie Ball threw for 72 yards and a touchdown. Roughnecks stopped the Brawlers on two consecutive fourth down attempts in the first quarter to only see themselves denied the end zone by the Brawlers in the end of the first. The second half hosted a slew of scoring where the Roughnecks would share the quarter with the Brawlers scoring two apiece. A late 2-point conversion would see Bricktown into the second half with the lead. With a halftime score of 16-14 led by the Brawlers, their opening debut would prove to be great until a scoreless third quarter would put the Roughnecks up by almost three possessions and end the game 39-22 F West Texas.
