I sent an E-mail to the Commish on pointstreak. It needs to be dumped and something else needs to be used. I have no idea what his response will be, but I hope something will be done (because pointstreak is seriously flawed and needs major reprogramming...something that probably would take months to do with the right people on it, and years for other people).
How would you fix the IFL's Live Stats?
1. Use another program (which one)? 2. Hire a company to create a new one? 3. Forgo live stats and use a working stat program and post the stats after the game is finished. 4. Other

There was nothing wrong with the old program, whatever it was (and I have a copy on my computer, haha). However, the IFL needs to work more with its teams on the PR side of things (obviously not all teams)...there are too many IFL teams whose markets have no idea they exist.
This isn't an IFL-only problem, obviously.

Pointstreak software has no problems its the stats person that needs to be fixed. The IFL should teach their people how to use it. Once everyone knows how to run it, it will be fixed.

That's what storm2010 is saying. I sent another E-mail recommending fines for teams not taking stat entering seriously. It is creating a black eye for the league. If you're going to have live stats they need to be correct. All stats need to be done as best as possible, players are recognized based on stats and use them along with game tape to try to move to higher leagues.

I agree completely that something needs to be done to improve this, it almost seems worse this year. I also think it is just an issue with the people that run it, not the program itself
It can't be a different person each week running it, and they need to get good training on it. By the way, I know the league did do training, but that assumes a competent person actually attending the training from each team and understanding what they learned enough to use it. (some apparently didn't...)
I talked a little last year to the guy that did it for the Spartans, and he was pretty good at it. But, he did say that it really helped to have a 2nd person working as a "spotter" with you. One person to watch the play closely, and another to enter it into the system.
The guy that is doing it this year for the Spartans will do a good job. He knows his stuff, and isn't just a "high schooler" as was said before.
Oh, and they already do get fines if they don't have it up and running live, or things are not done right.

I think they need to UP the fines on some of these teams. Kent isn't new to the league this year, but they weren't up to date on their stats either. Every game today had an issue. All but one had issues yesterday. The Storm at Kent game was way off. The Chicago game when Omaha visited was incorrect for many players (Chicago isn't new to the league, they had issues yesterday too...that's two Chicago home game issues). The Allen home game was waaay off. And more. Probably only 2 games out of the 17 played were totally correct...in statistics that's bad.

It's $500 for first offense and doubles each time after that..

So Arizona and others will owe $63,500 by season's end, not pay it and fold, and we still won't have good stats. Wonderful.
Ignore my complaining, it's just frustrating that competent stats can't be gathered.

I'd guess most teams stat guys are unpaid volunteers that have their first interaction with the software on gameday. This is a result of the "bob scottness" of a lot of the teams in the league and inability of the league office to wield any power. Fines are a pipe dream. The ownership will never agree to fine anyone for trying to be cheap unless it's Sioux Falls.
Exit is correct, there was nothing wrong with the qkstats program except the lack of a snazzy visual interface. But the text based information was far more accessible to mobile browsers, older PC's, etc.
The league could offer webinars for the stat guys prior to the season starting, but that would require teams to have stat guys.. It appears that most of the teams are "oh sh*t" on game days when they realize they have to not only provide video and audio for B2 but stats too, jeesh what are we the NFL.. no one cares about stats for these games... except everyone..
I recall pretty scathing remarks in my opening weeks blogs last year, but things eventually got better... I guess we'll see this year. By a week from today everyone should have had a home game, and in theory stats should only get better, but they never should have been this 3rd rate to begin with.

I know the stats guy in Fairbanks, they have two spotters(one for defense, one for offense) plus the guy entering the stats. The biggest problem they have is the arena internet is spotty and sometimes does not work. I knwo the stats went live most of there first game but stopped in the 3rd qtr. they were posted shortly after the game was finished.

I sent Tommy B an email today about the frustration with Pointstreak. He replied within an hour and said he is aware of the problems and will do all he can to make sure it is going to be fixed. He blamed the teams and it will be said there will be fines if they don't provide the stats correctly to pointstreak...He seemed very sincere and I expect it to be better this week

I got the same reply from him. I believe he'll get on the teams, but will the teams take it seriously?....jury's out.

Here's the fix that will solve the problem:
The IFL does the hiring and oversight of statkeepers, instead of trying to get the teams to. If the IFL is worried about it that badly, and it is a problem (and it is), they should be doing it themselves.

The league staff is pretty bare bones and I don't see that changing too much. It's still the minor leagues when it comes down to it and I don't think the league teams would agree to the cost of expanding league staff to team statisticians.

Then you're wasting your time talking to anyone. If they want to fix it, it's an easy fix. They aren't fixing it, so clearly they don't care.
