IFL WEEK TWO ONE RECAP
The Indoor Football League’s second week of competition hosted 8 games. Records were broken, as well as statements made in the race for the championship in 2011.
Week two started off as the Sioux Falls Storm visited the Predators in Kent, WA on Friday providing fans with a non-stop action packed game. This offensive battle left the game with a total of 176 points, but heavily weighted in the Storm’s favor. The Sioux Falls Storm broke the all-time record for points in a game putting up 105 to the Predators 71. Leaving defenses with something to think about when these two teams come to town and a strong insight on what their season will be like.
The Colorado ICE came out of the weekend victorious over the Amarillo Venom giving them a good start from their last season of 2-12. Competition began slowly in Colorado on Friday as a scoreless first quarter would turn into an all out battle by the fourth. Amarillo would take a brief lead in the third, only to cough up the ball in the closing minutes of the game with an interception by Colorado’s number 8 Jason English. This defensive play would lead the ICE down the field and add another touchdown and put the game out of reach for the Venom at 37-26.
Omaha BEEF traveled to Chicago, IL to face the Slaughter on Saturday. Chicago coming off of win in La Crosse was looking to start a streak and take this game leaving them 2-0, but a strong willed Omaha BEEF proved that they would be a force to be reckoned with. The BEEF and Slaughter would fight back and forth throughout the game scoring touchdown for touchdown. Two missed field goals would shake any kicker in the first quarter, but not James White. White battled through the two extra point attempts to come back a hit 25 and 17 yard kicks to seal the victory for the BEEF at 39-36.
The Adrenaline would struggle against a veteran IFL team as they made their debut in the league. Coach Shackelford produced a two QB set on Saturday, seeing this pay off as a total of 198 yards and 6 touchdowns were registered between the two. A veteran to the Fever, WR Joey Hew Len, proved his worth by catching 6 receptions for 102 yards and 3 touchdowns leading the Fever to a 76-28 victory.
The IFL’s game of the week proved to be a thriller as the intra-state rivalry between the Reading Express and Lehigh Valley Steelhawks was born in PA. As both of these teams made their debut in the IFL, a fierce competition was sure to follow. A back and forth game would leave the home fans pleased as the Express came out on top with a 36-26 win.
The Revolution would fall in their season opener in Bloomington on Sunday, seeing only one touchdown to the scoreboard. A very agile and fast Hinds would find better fortune on Saturday, as he completed 17 passes for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns, leading to a disappointing start to the Revolution’s season with a final of 44-6 after an outstanding showing in 2010 at 13-1.
The Grizzlies would prove no match for Wenatchee’s Venom as they made the cold trip to Alaska this weekend. Wenatchee proved promising at the QB position with Devin Hollins putting up an impressive 20 completions for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns. Grizzlies found scores throughout the game on both sides of the ball, but could not match up to the offensive strength of the Venom with a final of 45-37.
