Well, this is the opening weekend of the Shady SIFL's kickoff! Do I care? Just for the friends I made along the way, coaches, players and the great fans. I wish them all well and hope they have an entertaining season.
The game we put together in the first season, was by far the superior game then what we had in year 2. We just had to change the rules to be able to add the eastern teams, more of the game they were built to play. The records proved that fact, along with the stats. I personally enjoy giving each coach the opportunity to COACH. Scheme and build your team the way you want it, (for run, for passing or balanced) and on defense, (1 LB or 2LB). It made it as close to FOOTBALL as you could get to the outdoor game. It made coaches coach, and players play! Just my opinion. I hate the Arena style all passing, always have. Don't get me wrong, if a team is built for passing and is effective, it is a great thing to watch. Watching a RB bust through the line or go around the end for a 30 yard run, to me is more exciting. Sorry WR's! Some of the most exciting games i have seen, were in the NIFL with the Katy Copperheads, with RB Bam Morris, who would consistently bust out for long runs, breaking tackles and scoring. Why call the RB a RB in the SIFL, call him QB protector. Last season, most teams lined up an extra lineman back there anyways. But i digress.
The league itself STILL owes me a LARGE sum of money with NO intentions of paying me. Promises have been made, deadlines that were given to me have come and gone, many times over. Lame excuses about teams not paying franchise fees or dues have been made, same old stuff we dealt with the first 2 seasons. B.S. that we endured for 2 seasons, continues. STILL i wait for the promised pay. (Greenville Force players, I FEEL your pain. I stood up for you guys all season, and i was in the same boat as you were, all along)
So when you buy that ticket, that program, that beer or food, think about me for just that second, the one that gave his heart and soul into making the SIFL what is is today, and still remains unpaid!!
Until next time
