I wish Dan the best and hope he returns soon. Thanks for all you've done for the sport of indoor football.

LAKE CHARLES, LA (January 9, 2009) - Southern Indoor Football League Director of Communications Dan Ryan, whose efforts to publicize indoor football have been recognized as one of the premier endeavors of the sport, will begin an "Urban Meyer type" sabbatical effective immediately.
"I need to pull an Urban Meyer while there's still a modicum of love of the sport left in me and to take care of pressing family needs," Ryan said. "I will always consider indoor football a fantastic product that is affordable family entertainment and an opportunity for coaches, staffs and players to showcase their talents."
"My thanks go to SIFL President Thom Hager for allowing me to practice my profession another year and for having both the integrity and the heart to keep attempting to make this sport credible and profitable," Ryan added. "The SIFL staff is the most professional I've ever worked with in indoor football and they too have my thanks and gratitude. But those who continue to keep this sport in a state of convulsion that rivals the BCS-- you have my open and utter disdain."
Ryan launched the SIFL's communication efforts that included the innovative use of social media applications such as Twitter into game day coverage that superseded the efforts of other leagues as well as a weekly e-newsletter and daily content updates and releases that emphasized players and coaches, not league management.
And he did these coordinated efforts 1,500 miles away from SIFL offices in Lake Charles, LA.-- Hager approved a visionary plan that allowed Ryan to perform his duties while being close to his Utah family, which enjoyed the arrival of his step-grandson in April. He kept daily activity with the sport by serving as the play-by-play announcer for web casts for the Utah Valley Thunder of the American Indoor Football Association.
"Not only did I get to be there for the birth of a grandchild, we proved that we can successfully run a communication effort out of a virtual office at a high level of professionalism at optimum cost efficiency," Ryan said. "We were the premier league as far as that aspect goes."
Hager stated, "Dan pulled off something most journalists couldn't even imagine.
He was always coming up with creative ideas to keep things fresh. I look forward to his return and his continued dedication to our sport. It's good to see he has his priorities in order."
Ryan previously worked with the Frisco Thunder of the Intense Football League and the Daytona Beach Thunder of the World Indoor Football League. He handled PR efforts for the WIFL and the American Indoor Football League.
SIFL Director of Media Relations Matt Hester will handle Ryan's duties as the league prepares for its 2010 kickoff.
