Lions Announce Opponent Change For April 16th Home Game
April 5, 2011
COLUMBUS, GA (April 5, 2011) - The Columbus Lions (2-1) and the Southern Indoor Football League would like to announce that the Mobile Bay Tarpons (2-1) will serve as the replacement opponent for the Lions April 16th home game.
Due to the inability to fulfill workers compensation insurance requirements, the Lafayette Wildcatters were forced to cease operations for the 2011 season. As a result, the Southern Indoor Football League has reshuffled the 2011 schedule placing the Mobile Bay Tarpons as the replacement team for the Columbus Lions April 16th home game. Mobile's original April 16th game in Corpus Christi has also been reshuffled so that the Hammerheads play a more regional opponent at a later date.
"Not only will this be a very competitive game with early playoff implications, but it symbolizes the vision and mission of the SIFL to establish a strong regional footprint of indoor competition that will be a traditional ‘backyard brawls' which have been a part of football in the southeast for many years," says Columbus Lions Principal Owner John Hargrove.
In addition to this game change, the Columbus Lions and Columbus State University will present the children/family play, ‘Charlotte's Web' beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center. April 16th's game will serve as ‘Knology Night' as all Knology users can bring in their Knology bill and receive a buy one get one free lower level ticket.
Always providing some local family fun and entertainment at an affordable price, the Lions will also have a special focus on their friends and family at Fort Benning. Expanding their motto from "One Force-One Fight" to "One Force-One Fight-Your Night," the entire Columbus community can celebrate the military presence and support in a family environment of traditional tailgates to family theatre to indoor football with a neighbor.
"This military focus by the Columbus Lions and Southern Indoor Football League is a way of thanking our military for their constant sacrifice for our freedom that touches everyone every day," says SIFL Commissioner Gary Tufford. Lions Principal Owner John Hargrvoe summons it up, "Our military cares so much about us that this is a small way of letting them know how much they are truly cared about!"
