Discuss the Colorado @ New Mexico Week 1 matchup here!
Colorado is coming into the season after a solid 2011 campaign and a playoff berth.
New Mexico is an expansion team with a mix of veteran players looking to make a splash in the league in their first year.

I'm an Ice fan.
It will be interesting to see what ONeal does with Colorado.

Maybe I am ignorant of the rules but...
When Colorado kicks an onside kick, it goes 10 yards and Colorado recovers, how can the officials force a rekick when the Stars were offsides? Can't Colorado decline the penalty and keep the ball?
Then, on the rekick, a Star player touches the ball before it went 10 yards, then Colorado recovers the ball and the Stars get the ball? Am I missing something here or need to change the prescription to my eyeglasses?
Is the IFL rule book different than standard football in these situations?
My opinion, until corrected, is that Colorado got hosed.

The first onside kick was recovered by the Ice, how there can be a rekick I have no idea.
The second onside kick I couldn't tell who touched it first, but I can watch the replay on demand later. If the Ice touched it first, then it's Stars ball since it didn't go 10 yards before being touched.
I sure would like to hear the explanation on why the first one was a rekick though.

On the first onside kick the ball goes goes 10 yards, touches the wall but I am pretty sure it's still a live ball and Colorado recovered it. Colorado ball in my view.
If it wasn't live, it should have called kicked out of bounds and the Stars get the ball. But that did not happen. No one got penalized.
They merely had a rekick from the same yard line.
Something is not right here.

I wonder how many people are left in the survivor pool after this game?

You get three strikes before you're eliminated, so all 26 are still in it. 9 people got a strike in week 1 (6 of those chose the Ice).

I think this is more evidence to a point I have made for a long time that Heron O'Neal gets alot of credit that is unfounded. He had deep pocketed owners in Billings that bought many great players. Not hard to coach that talent. He goes to Colorado and they lose to an expansion team.
I am just not going to give Heron O'Neal much credit until he can be successful outside of Billings.
It also gets overlooked that the team in Billings had numerous issues related to the law in his time there.
