RICHMOND VA.- The Indoor Football League (IFL) has named WR Maurice Avery, LB Brandon Wilson and KR Kevin Marshall Vidswap.com’s Week 6 IFL Players of the Week.
Allen WR Maurice Avery and Tri-Cities LB Brandon Wilson have been named Vidswap.com Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Bloomington KR Kevin Marshall has been named Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week.
IFL Offensive Player of the Week: Avery (6’1, 215, Memphis) showed his incredible versatility off as the Wranglers scored a franchise record 86 points in their victory against the Nebraska Danger. During the game Avery threw for two touchdown passes, ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown. After Wranglers QB Kasey Printers left the game with an injury, Avery stepped in and completed four passes for 94 yards and two TDs including a 40 yard pass to Terrell Owens. Avery finished the game with 31 rushing yards and 35 receiving yards with four total touchdowns. Avery currently leads the Wranglers in receiving yards (309) and touchdowns (8)
IFL Defensive Player of the Week: Wilson (6’1, 235, Illinois State) proved to be a defensive force for the Fever as Tri-Cities beat the Wyoming Cavalry 62-41. Wilson logged six tackles (two for loss) an interception return for a TD and had a sack for a safety vs. Cavalry. In the first quarter Wilson snatched an interception from Cavalry QB Matt Strand and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown to give the Fever a 14-6 lead. Wilson later sacked Strand in the endzone for a safety. Wilson is currently second on the Fever in sacks and is the only Fever player to return an interception for a touchdown this season.
IFL Special Teams Player of the Week: Marshall (5’10, 190, Shippensburg) helped the Bloomington Edge to a 70-65 shootout victory over the Chicago Slaughter. In his first game as a member of the Edge, Marshall had nine kick returns for 199 yards in the victory over the Slaughter. His 199 kick return yards are the highest total so far in a game during the 2012 IFL season.
