For the love of whatever deity you pray to... I see my biggest pet peeve has reared it's ugly head yet again, and this time it's the Storm suffering from memory loss. As anyone who's been around me long enough knows I'm totally obsessed with the way the IFL has decided to re-number the United Bowls after the merger. Did the Super Bowl start over again at 1 after the AFL and NFL merged in 1970? No, no they did not.
As a result of this the Storm have won a contest called United Bowl 3 (or III) twice.. once in 2007 (Casey Veenhof catches "the catch" going over the boards with 12 seconds left, no?? here allow me to refresh your memory... ..perhaps some of you remember now... and once in 2011.
I thought Billings and the IFL did a good enough job referring to the contest as United Bowl 2009 Or just an unnumbered United Bowl... and then in 2010 I believe my ticket said United Bowl 2010.. or again unnumbered. Now, the team which actually has won more "United Bowls" than any other team can't get the numbering straight.
There are bigger things to get worked up about in life, but something that seems so clerical, to me, should be pretty straight forward. We've retired jerseys of players who played in 5 of the six United Bowls the Storm have played in, let's not aid in any confusion, nor disrespect our tradition by counting to 4, then starting over.
For the record, this year will be the 8th[\b] United Bowl contest. The Storm have been in 6 of them so far winning 5.
So, please.. let's do the logical thing and refer to this years championship as United Bowl 2012, or United Bowl 8 (or VIII)

I'm with you of course, but at the end of the day be happy with your titles. Most teams have zero.

Though, this united bowl is very different than the united bowl played before the leagues joined. When the NFL and AFL joined, the Super Bowl had already been played between the championship of the two leagues. The format didn't change.
The old united bowls were only played by the United teams. They can more be compared to the old "NFL Championship game" that was before the super bow, and yes, when the AFL and NFL started playing each other for the first time, it WAS called Super Bowl 1, even though the NFL had a championship game dating back to the 40s. So while I have in the past, and still do agree with your main point, I don't agree with the NFL comparison.
When adding up united bowls, you count 8. Aren't the old Intense Bowls just a legit as the United Bowls played before the merger? This is why I STILL argue a NEW BOWL NAME should have been used. This being the Indoor Football League, I wish Indoor Bowl had not be ruined by the NIFL. Of course if they DID use that name now, us Fever fans would get pissed when "Indoor Bowl 5" came around, claiming we already won it!!!!!!

I fine with whatever moniker, but prefer using the year (aka Beef Bowl 2012) instead of a roman numeral (Beef Bowl MXVII).

Yep. I was thinking a three TD margin and not the route that came about though. It will be a lot closer in Kennewick, you can be sure of that.

So you think it will be 55-16 again? I don't. I see Storm winning by 21 and not 39 when they go to Washington State. Despite everyone's protests, being at home does lend itself to home cooking.
