"Minor league pro football is a weird universe filled with bounced checks, unpaid bills, empty promises, out-right lies, empty arenas, endless women, endless booze, occasionally drugs, endless trips on rented buses to towns on the outskirts of the Big Time and, for one night a week, a football game." -- Bill Shea
Reading, PA The Reading Express (2-10) will host the Chicago Slaughter (6-6) on Jun. 2 on Savage 61 Dodge Field at the Sovereign Center, 7 p.m., for Fan Appreciation Night. The Reading Express is looking to finish out a rocky season with a win at home, while the Chicago Slaughter needs to win in order to keep their fourth play-off spot.
The last time these two teams met, the Slaughter defeated the Express, 67-50. Last week the Express lost to their cross-county rival, the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, in a game where the Express threw five interceptions. Both teams scored three touchdowns, but the Steelhawks got an edge up with 4 field goals from Paul Stoltz and the Express scored only one field goal from Erik Rockhold.
Last week the Slaughter was defeated by the Bloomington Edge, 62-43, ending a four-game winning streak. In that game, the Edge out-gained the Slaughter by over 100 total offensive yards and the Slaughter had four turnovers that gave the Edge the upper hand.
Currently, the Slaughter is averaging 269.6 yards per game, while the Express is sitting at 225.1 yards per game. The Express has thrown 23 interceptions on the season, six more than the Slaughter. As a team, the Slaughter has recorded 129 more tackles on the season than the Express; however, the Express and the Slaughter are only separated by 4 points when it comes down to average points allowed per game.
This match-up will prove to be a thrilling one especially since it is the last home game of the 2012 season for the Express. There will be a lot of promotions during the game including autographed team photos to the first 800 fans, $1 hot dogs, sodas and popcorn and a 5 gallon bucket to the first 500 fans to the Railheads table courtesy of Sherwin Williams. The Express will also be giving away 2 Justin Beiber tickets to his soon to be SOLD OUT show in Philadelphia. If you purchase a ticket for the June 2 game you will receive an entry into the drawing. All Season Ticket Holders are automatically entered into the drawing. So come out and support the Express in their last home game of the season and get your summer started off with the most exciting show on turf.

The Reading Express came up six points short on the scoreboard and two points shy of a milestone Saturday night in its final Indoor Football League home game of the 2012 season.
The Chicago Slaughter overcame an early fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Express 46-40, handing Reading its fourth straight loss.
But kicker Erik Rockhold, who has been with the Express for each of its seven seasons, scored his first touchdown to go with two field goals and four extra points, giving him 998 points for his career.
Rockhold will have a chance to reach the 1,000-point milestone Friday when the Express visits Green Bay. But Reading, which turned the ball over four times in the first half, won't be able to change the outcome of its second loss to the Slaughter this season.
"It's indoor football, you can't turn the ball over," Express coach Mark Steinmeyer said. "You can't give those guys extra possessions. We could play with anybody in the league. We've just got to take care of the football."
The Express (2-11) also was trying to take care of Rockhold, the only player who has been with the team since its start in 2006.
He scored his first touchdown on a 1-yard run in the third quarter and came up just short on a two-point conversion run off a fake extra point.
Rockhold scored on his second carry from the 1, following the block of fullback Mike Dell out of the power-I for his first professional TD.
"I know everybody was trying to get to the 1,000," Rockhold said. "I left a few points out there myself. I just want to thank everybody for giving me a shot."
The Express also came close to beating the Slaughter (6-7) but let another fourth-quarter lead slip away.
After Rockhold's TD run that thrilled the crowd on Fan Appreciation Night, quarterback Tim Bailey threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Keith Stokes and Rockhold's extra point gave the Express a 30-27 lead.
Bailey completed 17-of-28 for 189 yards and three touchdowns but threw three interceptions in the first half.
A fourth turnover, a fumble on a handoff exchange from backup quarterback Kevin Clancy to Elliott White, was returned for a touchdown by the Slaughter in the final minute of the first half.
"Me throwing those three picks hurt us," Bailey said. "I tried to make something that wasn't there a couple times. It hurt us in the long run."
Still, when Rockhold kicked a 27-yard field goal in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, Reading had a six-point lead.
Former McCaskey star Perry Patterson threw a pair of touchdown passes around Daniel DuFrene's third rushing touchdown of the game as Chicago scored 19 straight points to spoil Reading's home finale.
But Rockhold, who said he will retire at the end of the season, has one more shot.
"It's been a fun run," Rockhold said. "We'll get it next week. It just won't be as fun in Green Bay."
