COVINGTON, Ga. -- A Columbus man wanted for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend was arrested Saturday in Georgia.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Rodney Swanigan, 46, was arrested Saturday afternoon in Covington, Ga., after a brief standoff.
Swanigan was wanted in Columbus on two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of felonious assault, and one count of felony violation of a protection order.
The charges were out of two incidents where police said Swanigan forced entry into his ex-girlfriend's home and confronted her with a weapon.
During the second incident, police said Swanigan shot his ex-girlfriend in the arm.
On Saturday, members of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Newton County Georgia sheriff's office, surrounded a home in Covington where Swanigan was believed to be, according to the GBI.
A spokesperson for the GBI said Swanigan exited the house and pointed a handgun at a Newton County deputy.
The deputy fired a shot at Swanigan. According to police, Swanigan was not hit and he then immediately surrendered.
In addition to the charges he faces in Columbus, Swanigan was charged with felonious assault and weapon under disability in Georgia.
Swanigan is currently held in the Newton County jail.
