TITANS NAB 1ST TEAM ALL IFL RECEIVER
ADDITION OF SIMS & TARDY BOLSTER TITANS ALREADY SOLID OFFENSE
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA: WINNING, getting players to higher levels, and creating the most electrifying atmosphere in professional sports for fans attending Titans games are the top three priorities of the 2013 Cedar Rapids Titans organization. The team made that quite apparent by announcing the team had acquired WR Carl Sims. Sims spent the past two seasons playing a key role as a top receiver for the Sioux Falls Storm, the defending back-to-back United Bowl Champions. For his offensive production and top five IFL numbers Sims was named 1st team All IFL in 2012. He finished the regular season with 72 catches for 1,108 yards both team highs for the Storm. He racked up 20 touchdowns which was good for enough for 2nd on the team. He added 213 yards and five touchdowns during the post season.
The 6'1" 190 pound Sims graduated from Western Illinois University, where he ranks third in career receptions with 136 and fourth in yards with 1,724. He also has spent time in the Canadian Football League spending half of the 2011 season with the B.C. Lions.
The Titans also announced Wednesday that the team has picked up WR Desmond Tardy. Tardy, entering his third season in the IFL, spent 2012 with the Green Bay Blizzard. The 6'1" 200 pound Tardy finished the regular season with 39 catches for 512 yards and 14 TD's. Titans fans will remember Tardy for his stunning one handed touchdown grab against the Titans at Mediacom Field last season. Desmond played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers. In 2008, he had 67 catches for 876 yards and 5 touchdowns. He finished third in the Big Ten in both catches and yards and fifth in TDs. Along with his offensive numbers he returned 12 kickoffs for 345 yards and nine punts for 57 yards and finished the year 1st in the Big Ten and 9th nationally in average yards per kickoff return. Tardy also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tardy is the 3rd Blizzard player to join the Titans in 2013. He will join RB Laron Council and WR Bryan Pray, who signed last week.
