The 2014 season is shaping up to be as competitive as 2013. I don't think the league should expand just for the sake of expanding. We don't want to get the APFL reputation. Kearney would be good geographically but I think there are some teams in the IFL if they express an interest would make sense as well. KC moving to I.E.C. would be good. Soccer and Hockey do well there and I think Football could as well. If any team leaves, I could see it being Mid-Mo unless they upgrade the level of talent to play in the Indoor League. To me, it seemed like and I could be wrong, that they were just going through the motions this year and weren't trying to be competitive. The Koyotes having Roster/Coach changes during the season caused an uneven flow for that organization. I think Coach Green will get them back to the APFL days and quickly. Lincoln was competitive and Bloomington with Roster Upgrades will be good as well. 2014 depending on what teams do in the Off-season with resigning players and adding new talent continues to be in my mind Wichita, Salina, Sioux City, and Omaha with others falling in behind. Being on the Chains for Salina, the awards and accolades are well deserved by all. Wichita is extremely well run and I think all teams in the league went through some growing pains and I am definitely looking forward to 2014.

I think Kearney needs some new investors if they want to compete in the CPIFL.
Bloomington seems most at risk to not return to me, with Mid-Missouri and Kansas listed as questionable.

Kenton Carr is out as the Bloomington Edge Coach! Citing philosophical differences, Carr said Thursday he and Edge owner and team president David Holt mutually agreed to part ways this week.

In a way the story confirms that the Edge will be back next season in the CPIFL. Sounded to me like sour grapes in that article..

I think next year could be a extremely exciting one. Think about it... salina and wichita had really strong teams. If they keep their players they'll only get better. Then the omaha beef will have a full year to recruit players. Not just two months before training camp begins. Most teams already had rosters together when the beef signed their first player. Kansas city finished the year really strong. Kc may have the 2014 offensive player of the year with chris coffin leading the way. Sioux city has been fielding competitive teams the last 3 or 4 years so you can assume their going to be one of the best teams once again. Oklahoma had a terrific wide reciever and lincoln played some really good games jusy couldnt finish them out. If we add some IFL teams then 2014 could be one heck of a ride.

My gut feeling, for what it's worth, is that coach Carr was struggling with the CPIFL budget and talent...I too have heard that the Edge kept their heads above water financially and should be back.
The whole arena and the contract the management group has with the city to provide professional indoor football seems to give them hope, although I can't find any links to the details, merely mentions of it in last fall's articled when the move to the CPIFL was announced.
Salina, Wichita, Sioux City and Omaha all have to be considered stone cold locks.. one would hope.. KC has a new arena to find, the IEC is a sweet facility, but one I'm sure that comes with a equally (not-so) sweet rent payment... MId-Mo needs to step up their game if they want to compete, but it doesn't take much to make a few bucks in this league financially I guess.. Kansas and Oklahoma are really quiet, I could easily see them going either way...but probably both are back Lincoln should be moving into the new Haymarket Arena, but can they afford it?

Bouncer Texxx I was just curious why you would think the Defenders may not be back in the CPIFL?

over a decade of following a sport where you start the same things over, and over, and over again...
new team shows up in a league and has a good season, next season, new league, not quite as good on he field, be it front office complacency or a better level of talent, fan support and sponsorship drops...
Don't get anything twisted. The economics of the CPIFL make it very easy for the owners to make a go of it. Front that standpoint alone the entire CPIFL could make a return. Us office desk prognosticators could be using an outdated model for comparison to the new financials of the CPIFL.

The one detail I cannot see is Lincoln moving into the new Arena. It is too big and expect the cost to match it. It would be like telling the Beef to goto the CenturyLink Arena. Just wouldn't work.

The issue then becomes what are they going to do with the old Pershing Auditorium? If it remains, the Haymakers have a place to play, if it is set to be remodeled, or otherwise repurposed, Lincoln finds itself in a bit of a pickle.
KC is in a similar spot. Kemper Arena, based on everything I've read, is set to be torn down to make way for a rodeo arena (low ceiling) rumors have them moving the the Independence Events Center, which is a wonderful facility, but I'm guessing a bit pricey.

I'm sure it's not ideal to put a field over ice, but would the Ice Box in Lincoln be an option? Perfect seating size and the dasher boards are already up. There's also the relatively low roof situation, but as a last resort???

Sioux Falls, Colorado, Cedar Rapids, Allen, and Green Bay all put their fields on top of the ice in the first half of the season.
The IceBox is about the right size eating wise but again the low ceiling. Anyone know if the Stars own the facility? The thing is that arena's can cut whatever deals they want. Indoor football would slightly conflict with the Haymarket's big tenant (UNL BB) for about a month. After that, some people in it is better than none. In the IFL, Sioux Falls will have a similar decision to make for the 2015 season. Cedar Rapids is in it now, as the US Cellular arena is back open after it's remodel job.

There's also the relatively low roof situation, but as a last resort??? The old Wichita Aviators tried to play in a small ice rink for a year (capacity just over 1,000) and it didn't work so well. Low ceiling on one side. The scoreboard had to be taken down completely. Field goals and PATs on one side hit the wall.
