**** Mario Kart gave me Trigger Finger. I have physical therapy appointments and anti-inflammatory medicine to take to correct it. If that doesn't work, steroid injections, and lastly...surgery. Stupid game. My daughter will have to play against the computer now, I'm done with it.

Certain activities gave me carpal tunnel; you don't see me stopping.
Typing! Typing! Get your mind out of the gutter.

Dead serious. Worst case scenario is if it gets to steroid injections the tendon could rupture and I'd have a floppy thumb, but that's usually after many injections and I'd opt for surgery before that anyway. Your thumb is basically a pulley system and the part that goes through the tendon is inflamed and won't go through causing pain and lockup. The 800 mg of motrin three times a day plus therapy for two weeks is supposed to reduce the inflammation and allow that area to pass through the tendon unhindered again...so we'll see how that goes. Surgery would fix the problem from the get go, but the downside of that is that you would have less strength in that area afterwards.

I had the beginning of carpal tunnel in the 90's, but thankfully the job that required daily heavy typing changed and it went away. That, and remembering to raise my wrists above the keyboard, or getting something to support the wrists over the keyboard (like keyboard pads or pillows at home for the laptop) have made it go away before it got too bad. Every now and then after typing for long periods of time I can feel it return, but I usually take a very long break when that happens.

My carpal tunnel will eventually require surgery. I currently just use an ace wrap around it to stabilize my left wrist while it hurts; usually a week or two and then I'm good again for another few months.
When that stops working, then that'll be time to make a move.

Man, that's rough, I think if I was you I'd bite the bullet and get the surgery now. I've been living with this trigger finger since November and now that it's locking up on me I just can't take it anymore, enough's enough.

It's not invasive right now. With the wristwrap I can do whatever I need to with my left hand (helped by that I'm right-handed).
When the pain becomes pervasive, I'll worry about it. I feel that'll be another 10 years or more from now.

after reading this, I'm a little glad I didn't buy mario kart. LOL. I'm still addicted to it, but haven't played it in awhile. Once my thumb is good, I'll try it again, but if it looks like it won't work, then I'll quit it for good. I mastered that sucker though, got a 3 Star Rating, the highest you can get. It took awhile, but when I put my mind to something I usually get it done. Man though, that game really annoyed the heck out of me at the start though, but then it grows on you. The things I do for my daughter.
