I think it's interesting how much the Sioux Falls/Billings game on Saturday ties into Omaha/Wichita next Saturday.
While it's not set in stone, it would take quite a collapse for Omaha not to win the Central Division. With that being said, the two things that have direct importance to them down the stretch are:
1. Securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs. 2. The #3 seed out of the Central Division.
Omaha basically controls their own destiny to #1, unless El Paso and/or Maryland win out which I'd argue is very unlikely. They are a single game back of Billings with a home game vs. the Outlaws to finish the season that could potentially level the two record wise and would additionally secure the tiebreaker for Omaha since they would have two victories vs. Billings compared to just one for Billings in the season series.
Number 2 is where things get a bit trickier. Wichita has a one game advantage over Sioux Falls with three games remaining for both teams. Here are the remaining schedules for both teams:
Wichita (5-6) vs. Omaha vs. RiverCity vs. Alaska
Sioux Falls (4-7) vs. Billings vs. Fairbanks vs. Sioux City
I'd say it's basically a two game race for these two teams, considering Alaska and Sioux City should be pretty secure wins at home for both teams, respectively. Fairbanks is a very likely win for Sioux Falls and RiverCity is probably a coinflip at home for Wichita. The game that directly impacts both issues for Omaha is Billings/Sioux Falls:
If Billings wins, the pressure is on for Omaha to keep pace @wichita or they risk falling 2 games back of Billings which would essentially end hope of securing home field for a potential championship matchup and should considered be virtual suicide.
If Sioux Falls wins, however, it's Wichita who has the pressure turned up, as they have to keep pace with a Sioux Falls team that would be a half game back, an easy schedule down the stretch, and full rights over a potential tiebreaker with the Wild (2-0 H2H). Omaha shouldn't be scared of anybody in the Central Division considering they'll likely be playing from the friendly confines of the Civic, but you're kidding yourself if you think they don't want a Bloomington/Wichita 1st round game coming out of the Central. Or more importantly, Sioux Falls booking a tee time instead of participating in the playoffs. Furthermore, a SF win means Billings drops their 2nd game of the season, which gives Omaha a bit of leeway to stumble in Wichita. It's not exactly fool proof because Omaha's end of season schedule isn't exactly a cake walk (San Angelo, @sc), but they will certainly be favorites in both games. And again, the Beef only need to stay within a game of Billings before their showndown in the final week with the Outlaws since a potential win would both draw Omaha even in the standings and give them the all important tiebreaker.
I'm not saying Omaha makes the trip to the Hartman and throws a game in Wichita. What I am saying is that there will be a ton of scoreboard watching and a ton of potential side stories outside of what is taking place on the field next Saturday.

Omaha wants home field throughout, they'll need wins to pull it off, Billings is rarely the same team on the road as they are at home. I've thought the same thing that RC and OMA might dig a little deeper into the 30 man protected roster to fill out the 21 man gameday roster than normal when playing Wichita..

Good analysis Matt, I went over the same thing. Wichita will get everything it can handle from Omaha and RiverCity since they are both trying to advance their seeding. No one wants to see Sioux Falls in the playoffs, but they won't be throwing games to ensure it. Wichita will have to win to get in. Sioux Falls needs to put everything they got in the tank to get a win against Billings, otherwise they may be out of the playoffs thanks to Billings and the executive committee. Of course, upsets happen all the time so nothing is certain.

Omaha needs wins if they want the overall top seed, plus I think the players have some pride and won't mail this one in. I"ll be watching via qkstats. if any Wild fans are going and can text me updates just in case, pm me your number.

Congratulations to the Wild on what I am guessing is their biggest win in franchise history. Helped my Outlaws get a step closer to home field and put the Storm on the brink. Just need that win at home with the battle of the Wild in their last game.

Omaha had the game in the bag and blew it by not getting a first down and not finishing off a game winning sack. Congrats to the Wild on the win. Will post more later, just got back home after a long night's drive back after the game. Sun is starting to rise and I'm just hitting the hay after driving all night, but that's the life of a traveling Beef fan.
