June 30, 2010
Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the First Round Playoff Vidswap.com Players of the Week. The opening round of the playoff showcased many stars of the season as each stand-out performance not only puts players in position to capture weekly honors, but to help their team advance further into the post season. Each week the IFL selects three players, one from each phase of the game, offense, defense, and specials teams, whose play on the field stood out among the rest of the competition. The first round of the playoffs featured eight exciting match-ups and the following players ability to elevate their teams have earned them the distinction of the IFL Playoff First Round Vidswap.com Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: QB Chris Dixon, Billings Outlaws
The Billings Outlaws are the defending United Bowl champions. Trying to keep their crown, the Outlaws looked to wrap up the first round of the playoffs with a win over the hot Tri-Cities Fever. While the Fever's offensive fires burned bright, they could not overcome the offensive exhibition put up by Outlaws QB Chris Dixon. Completing 15 of 20 passes, Dixon was able to throw for 162 yards and five touchdowns. However, Dixon helped his team far beyond the passing game. Taking control of the ball, Dixon managed 134 rushing yards on 18 carries. Adding to his totals, he also had a rushing touchdown to help his own cause and put Billings in not only the win column, but the next round of the playoffs with a strong 54-45 victory. Dixon will once again lead the Outlaws offense in the Conference Semi-Finals as Billings host San Angelo.
Defensive Player of the Week: DB Sam Smith, Chicago Slaughter
There are fewer sequences as exciting in professional sports than a last second score for the victory. Defensive back Sam Smith helped create one of those stunning moments in the Slaughter's 46-39 win over their Central North rivals, the Green Bay Blizzard. Smith had two interceptions over the course of the game. The final interception was the most imperative. His pick off in the closing moments of the game led to a lateral that scored the winning touchdown for Chicago. Smith also was responsible for 5.5 tackles and recovered a fumble. His ability to get the ball back for the Slaughter offense proved to be a difference maker throughout the course of the game. Smith will once again try to keep control of the game in Chicago's hands when the Slaughter travel to Sioux Falls for a first time meeting with the Storm.
Special Teams Player of the Week: K Adam Lanctot, Rochester Raiders
Only one time this season had the Richmond Revolution suffered a loss. The only team to do accomplish this went head to head for the fifth time this season with their Atlantic East rivals. It was expected to be an offensive slugfest. The reality of the game was a much closer contest where field goals decided the outcome. The leg most capable of providing the victory belonged to Rochester kicker Adam Lanctot. The Raiders were catapulted by their kicker's performance by winning 26-24. Lanctot did his part in knocking off the top seeded Revolution by hitting four of seven field goals, hitting both of his extra point attempts between the uprights, and providing 14 of his team's 26 points. Rochester will hope Lanctot's leg remains golden when they travel to Wichita for a Conference Semi-final clash against the Wild.
