Wow, I am liking this.
I think it's good news that the new owner isn't standing pat doing business as usual as the past Ice owners did. To continue the old model meant failure on the field.
But now, it's a new day.
Go Ice!

But now, it's a new day. Go Ice! I see what you're saying, but the owner better be careful about the "new way". Overspending isn't a good way to do business in indoor football, either. In fact, spending on indoor football in general is a pretty **** stupid idea. I guess that's why I'm not an owner.

But do the fans in NoCo even know who Coach O is.. Colorado just got instantly into playoff contention, he might not get paid Billings money, but at least he'll get paid.
Wonder how the league is going to handle contracts signed by former Outlaw players. I'd imagine they're legally binding and the league won't just let them run to the Ice... things just got a heck of alot more entertaining, I see the Ice and Cav's rivalry heating up quicker than anticipated.

Odd that Oneal is going to a coaching job without "head" before it. Seams like a downgrade.

As a fan, I have met Mr. O'Neal both here at the BEC arena in NoCo and at Rimrock Arena on the fields after games.
My impression of him was positive and he seemed down to earth and without any "holier than thou" attitude some people I have met had. He was very nice and cordial.
Now that game face he has while the game is still going is another story. But he loses that right after the game ends.
The only thing I am finding odd is that I am surprised he is going to be defensive coordinator rather than offensive coordinator.
That one has me stumped.

He's a defensive coach... has been his whole career.
The BG article when it was announced he was leaving Kent indicated he was ok with being a coordinator this season as it's a bit late in the game to be hiring a head coach. Considering he wasn't getting paid at all in kent, any paying job is an upgrade :-)

Yes, he's a defensive guy, but took over offensive coordinator duties in Billings the last two years when the previous guy had legal issues (to put it lightly). He used his extensive defensive knowledge to successfully attack other defenses and rode it to two titles (with a lot of help from Dixon and crew).
It will be interesting to see if the players he recruited to Kent will be able to get their release and perhaps some can make their way to Colorado.
What do you want to bet that if the Ice start off the season slow, that a head coaching change will be made and the owner goes to O'Neal? It would be mighty tempting.

Let's be clear, Dixon ran the offense in Billings the last 2 years.. Oneal just wore the title.. Oneal makes Colorado better but until they get some veteren talent, they will still be an average team at best.. Should be interesting to see if Sanders and Oneal can coexist when they lose a few games..

Last year, it was pretty much all rookies to the IFL anyway.
I checked the Ice website and the 3 WRs are still listed, Sleeth, English and Casimier. Knighton is supposed to be back at QB. He seemed pretty good but played only the last 6 games I think last season.
One OL looks to be back, Mason Barrett.
On the defense, hard to tell, a couple of DBs are listed that played last year, Sample and Etienne. I thought they played well.
The main problem was the defensive line and there looks to be a lot listed though they appear to be IFL rookies. So, it seems to me, Colorado is looking to revamp their D line.
IMO, Colorado was a better team last year than the 2-12 showed. They hung tough all year though losing, lots of injuries. We went thru 4 QBs in the first 6 or 7 games before Knighton came in.
The offense seemed potent enough to me but the defense crumbled.
But maybe I am jaded because I am an Ice fan and go to the games.
Add in the fact Colorado got thrown in to a different conference and division, and it looks like a slightly less rigorous schedule than they had last year.
I see you are a Storm fan, so you guys have been great for a long while, have very few problems.
Colorado though, has never been great and I am glad to see changes afoot. Something needed to be done.
Whatever Colorado is doing right now, at least an attempt is being made to improve.
I am tired of seeing us lose.
I am looking for good things and an improved team this coming season.

Don't let Storm 2010 get under your skin. He is however essentially correct, that Oneil wasn't really the OC, but kind of landed there by default, and they were winning, so it it ain't broke don't fix it eh.
I don't know "Colonel" Sanders (lol) or Coach O well enough to say much about how well or if they can coexist. I do think that Coach O will bring the experience of building a team back from the brink. If they can play in the same sandbox, look out, cause they'll build a good team...
Former Outlaw GM Adam Stedman was the GM in Kent, i wonder if he's gone as well.. *edit* I thought he was, swore i saw his name in a press release that i currently cannot find"

Don't let Storm 2010 get under your skin. It's OK, I have been on internet boards for years, there won't be a bitter flame war from me. Just defending me and mine as they say. He has a lot to brag about, the Storm I mean, great team, know what they are doing. The Ice though have floundered since their inception. It seems to me the new Ice owner is shaking things up. Good for him, the old way or plan for the Ice was clearly not working.

Don't take my comments above as completely serious just because I didn't put a smiley face there..."with a lot of help from Dixon and crew" was semi-jest. That doesn't mean you can take away credit from the rest of the team or O'Neal either. O'Neal did a great job and so did the other players. On the other hand, I'll be sure to credit every win Sioux Falls gets in 2010 to Dixon, and none to the rest of the team or Riggs.

Oneal is getting way more credit than he deserves. He is trouble! More to come on this topic... Look at his history, trouble in Billings, trouble in Kent, 3rd team in 3 months! Riggs and Oneal arn't even in the same class.. Dixon left Oneal so he could actually be coached! I feel bad for the few role players who did follow him to Kent. Now they are stuck in that mess for the 2011 season.. "All you followers need to start watching who you follow, they're liable to lead you down the wrong path."
