It was a very good game. Ref's didn't know what to do near the end with 2min's left when Chicago went for an onside kick and recovered the ball. They couldn't decide if the Chicago player touched it before it went 10 yards or not and had a looooooong discussion about it. The replay angle on B2 wasn't great either so it was hard to tell if you were viewing, but I thought he touched it before it reached the 10. It was funny, the Chicago player was re-enacting it for the ref's saying he was at the 11, but he was nowhere near there. So after much discussion and cajoling from players and coaches on both sides (Chicago coaches were flagged and told to stay on the bench), the ref's opted for a rekick. ?? A rekick? Seriously? I'm not digging in the rule book for it, but I doubt that's an option. Just make a decision, that's what they get paid to do.

That makes no sense at all. Call the ball for one team or the other.
If they can't decide what happened, the default should have gone in Chicago's favor since they recovered the ball.
Don't have a redo.

I just got word that the ref called Fairbanks for offsides on the play. If so, it would've been nice for them to announce that during the game. So if Fairbanks was offsides, that means they were ruling against Chicago recovering it before 10 yards and so Chicago gets to rekick. It would've been so much easier for them to announce that, but the fact they didn't still leaves it questionable as to whether they came up with that scenario after the fact to make it look better. I tell you, the ref's talked for like 10 minutes about what to do and didn't explain anything except that there would be a rekick.

I asked the head official for an explanation and that is what I got. He did tell the announcer that is what happened but I do not recall getting that from them. Was a weird play regardless, fairbanks refs have some work to do. I hope they will do it.
