I'll say that since the Rage went dark I haven't been sitting around hoping for any news on a return. In fact I had little hope. But this evening, out of the blue I received some good news totally out of the blue.
It turns out that my Legal Aspects and Theories of Sport professor at Southeast Missouri State is a former owner of the River City Rage. Michael Barnes is his name for those wondering. It turns out that since Sprowls who was the majority owner at the end of the Rage's run know longer has control of the team the rights are now controlled by Barnes' group again.
When I asked him the chances of the Rage's return he only gave me a maybe. What they are currently waiting on is the sale of the Family Arena. Lindenwood University is currently looking into buying it and if that were the case the Rage would still be without a home and likely wouldn't try going back to the Scottrade Center.
So the status of the Rage two years later is most certainly up in the air. Atleast there is hope if nothing else.

Did Barnes's recently buy the rights back...didn't know it had changed hands. I knew Sprowls has been trying to sell them though.

The way he explained (and bare with me because i'm doing this from memory) is that his group still had a minority stake in it and control was diverted to them. He didn't say this to me but I would believe they probably didn't have the funds at the time to immediately get the team back on their feet.
Now the issue with the Family Arena is one huge issue. It sounds like the city's asking price is too rich for Lindenwood's blood, which is sad because I was in there a few months ago and its really gone to hell. I'm afraid in the end that the return could get bogged down in city politics.

I was hearing rumblings again this year about them coming back to the Family Arena so hopefully it's sooner rather than later (or never).

It won't be this year, that much is certain.
