Week seven Players of the Week announced
April 4, 2011
Santino Turnbow was named the Terry's Tire Town Defensive Player of the Week.
CANTON, OH – The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) is pleased to announce the weekly player of the week honors for the week ending April 3, 2011.
Coming off a convincing 69-40 victory to claim sole possession of first place in the UIFL standings, the Northern Kentucky River Monsters had two players earn weekly laurels. Meanwhile, a new player in Johnstown made his impact immediately felt.
Northern Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen was named the Conquest Cards Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight time. It marks the first time in league history a player has earned a league honor in consecutive weeks. He is also the second player to pick up the UIFL award for a second time. NKY kicker Dustin Zink is a two-time Special Teams Player of the Week honoree.
Lorenzen and the River Monsters torched Huntington, league’s top scoring defense, for 69 points. It was more than three times the Hammer’s season average. The left-handed signal caller threw for six touchdowns and rushed for another in the victory.
Santino Turnbow, the River Monsters’ starting linebacker, earned the Terry’s Tire Town Defensive Player of the Week. Turnbow finished the game with eight tackles, four pass break-ups and two quarterback hurries in NKY’s win.
In his first game with Johnstown, kicker Matt Domonkos picked up the Edge Sportswear Special Teams Player of the Week honors. He was perfect on his extra point attempts with two UNOs and two field goals. The two field goals equals the league’s total on the season.
Week eight will feature a battle of 4-2 teams as Huntington returns home and looks to rebound from a disappointing loss, while Saginaw wants to avenge an earlier one-point defeat at the hands of the Hammer.
Northern Kentucky (5-1) will look to maintain a one-game lead over the Huntington/Saginaw winner when they travel to play Canton (1-5). It will be the third meeting between the two teams. In the other game, Johnstown (1-5) travels to Eastern Kentucky (3-3).
