The Indoor Football League began Week 14 with the Richmond Revolution and Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. In the first minutes of the game, the Revolution scored the first points of the game; however, the Steelhawks responded quickly with a touchdown of their own. In the remainder of the first half, the Steelhawks controlled the game, scoring a total of 42 points while only allowing the Revolution 12 points going into halftime. For the start of the third quarter, the Revolution knew they had to play harder to remain in the game; however, the Steelhawks scored the first points of the second half. But the Revolution fought back with a "pick-6", which was followed by another touchdown. Both teams played hard with 173 offensive yards for the Revolution and 152 offensive yards for the Steelhawks, but the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks defense were much more disruptive than the Revolution defense with 9 sacks and 1 interception. The 14 additional Revolution points in the fourth quarter were not enough to overcome the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, 46-38.
The great state of Wisconsin witnessed another intra state rivalry this weekend as the Green Bay Blizzard invaded the home of the Spartans. A tough and fast blizzard team would come out flying ending the first quarter with 27 points. Willie Copeland seemed to be unstoppable as he threw for the first four touchdowns of the game. The La Crosse Spartans would put up a strong effort to fight back in the second, but just could not hold off the Green Bay offense ending the game at 66-31.
Week 14 gave rise to another great intra state rivalry as the Wenatchee Valley Venom traveled to face the Seattle Timberwolves. The Timberwolves coming off a change in ownership have begun to turn their season around in the last few weeks, winning three of their last four putting them at 5-7 on the season. The new member team Wenatchee Valley Venom continues to struggle at 3-10 and will be looking to pick up a big win this coming weekend against another tough team the Tri-Cities Fever for their last game of the season.
The West Texas Roughnecks visited the Bricktown Brawlers Saturday evening hoping to break their 2 game losing streak. The Roughnecks knew that this battle was a very important game for them because it would help determine their positioning in the Lonestar Division; however, the Brawlers were looking to earn another win for their franchise as well. Both teams put forward a strong competition, hoping to come out victorious; however, the West Texas Roughnecks were able to defeat the Bricktown Brawlers to earn a shared first place spot with the Allen Wranglers in the Lonestar Division of the Intense Conference with a score of 48-6.
The Colorado ICE fell in a surprising loss to the Wyoming on Friday. The ICE 10-2 has had a turnaround season starting off with a seven game undefeated winning streak from their 2-12 season last year. On Friday however, the Cavalry came out more prepared and ready to play. It would be a hard fought game back and forth all night with offense coming every way possible. Matt Strand would throw for five touchdowns as running back Terry Washington of the ICE would run for 5, but a late touchdown and field goal for the Cavalry would seal the game at 59-53.
The undefeated Sioux Falls Storm hosted a conference competition with the Wichita Wild on Saturday evening. In the first quarter both teams found great success keeping the ball in the air; the Wild had 1 passing touchdown while the Storm had 3 passing touchdowns. Unfortunately for the Wild, the Storm quickly pulled away in the second quarter. For the entire second quarter, the Storm defense prevented the Wild from scoring any points while the offense earned 20 more points. The Wild defense was able to hold the Storm to only 9 points in the third quarter; however, there was no productivity from their offense. The fourth quarter appeared to hold the same fate for the Wild; however, in the final 2 and a half minutes they were able to score their first touchdown since the first quarter. The fourth quarter effort of the Wild offense was not enough to catch up to the Sioux Falls Storm, who defeated the Wichita Wild, 78-16.
The next game was between the two top teams in the Pacific Division in the Intense Conference, the Fairbanks Grizzlies and the Tri-Cities Fever. In the beginning of the game, the Fever quickly pulled away from the Grizzlies scoring 14 unanswered points in the first half until the Grizzlies earned a safety in the second quarter. It appeared the momentum shifted in favor of the Grizzlies because they got a rushing touchdown after their safety; however, within 42 seconds, the Fever scored two more touchdowns. The start of the third quarter proved promising for the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies were able to get a touchdown from an interception. The Grizzlies defense came alive and prevented the Fever from scoring for the remainder of the game while scoring 22 points of their own. The efforts of the Tri-Cities Fever in the first half were not enough to hold off the assault of the Fairbanks Grizzlies in the second half. The Grizzlies defeated the Fever, 31-28.
The next divisional competition was between the Omaha Beef and the Nebraska Danger. The Beef started the game off strong, not allowing the Danger to pick up any momentum in the first quarter. The Beef scored 12 unanswered points; only allowing the Danger to find any productivity in the beginning of the second quarter, a field goal.
