Like I wrote elsewhere, penalizing N. Kentucky with the 4th seed and sending them to Saginaw in the first round hurt Saginaw more than any of the other playoff teams. They were going to have a hard enough time beating N. Kentucky to begin with, but without Jones they have a 1% chance to beat "He Ate Me" and the River Monsters. The title game will now be played in either Eastern Kentucky or Huntington.

Saginaw Sting quarterback Tommy Jones takes leave of absence from team

SAGINAW -- The Saginaw Sting will likely not have starting quarterback Tommy Jones when they open the playoffs Friday against Northern Kentucky.
Sting Assistant General Manager Rob Licht said Tuesday that Jones is taking a personal leave of absence from the team, and is unlikely to be available for Friday's 7:30 p.m. game at The Dow Event Center.
Jones did not return a message left on his cell phone Tuesday night.
Jones, a six-year indoor football veteran, led the UIFL with a 61.7 percent completion rate and 77 touchdowns. His 3,054 passing yards was second in the league. He was 9-4 as a starter this year.
Yvens Louis, who played wide receiver for the first 13 Sting games but was a quarterback in high school, will start under center Friday, Sting coach Vince Leveille said.
Louis made his first start at quarterback in Sunday's 49-25 loss to the Huntington Hammer, going 12-for-29 for 130 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The team said after that game that Jones was resting for the playoffs.
Leveille said the team didn't do a good enough job of providing Louis protection in Sunday's game.
"If we can get him three or four seconds to throw the ball, we've got the three best receivers in the league," Leveille said.
The loss of Jones makes an already difficult task of Friday's game even more difficult. The River Monsters are 11-5 on the year, and are led by league-leading quarterback Jared Lorenzen.
The first round matchup of the top two teams in the league was made last week, when Northern Kentucky was found to have violated the league's salary cap, and was moved from the No. 1 seed to the No.4 seed as a penalty. The Sting were also fined for the use of an ineligible player.
The two bad breaks in less than a week mean the Sting have gone from playing the No. 3 seed in the playoffs to playing the top seed in the playoffs without their starting quarterback.
"Our feelings is it didn't really work out the best for us," Leveille said. "It seems like we're being punished more than anybody else.
"We don't really agree with what happened, but we've just got to play who we're assigned to play."
