2011 Blizzard Year in Review
July 14, 2011
Green Bay, WI: It was a year of record breaking performances for the 2011 Green Bay Blizzard. The 2011 season could be considered one of the most successful in the Green Bay Blizzard's nine year history.
The Indoor Football League announced in June that the Green Bay Blizzard earned the Franchise of the Year as determined by their peers. Categories to be considered for achieving this award consisted of attendance, sales, public relations, marketing, on field performance, community involvement and best representation of the IFL.
The Blizzard won the Great Lakes Division (formerly the Central North Division) for the second straight year and compiled an 11-3 regular season record. In their second season in the IFL, the Blizzard was able to capture a first round playoff bye and defeat the Reading Express for their first IFL playoff victory, improving their record to a perfect 8-0 at the Resch Center. The team would go on to be the United Conference runner-up.
With the Blizzard posting a 12-4 overall record and an eight game home win streak (longest streak since an 11 game home win streak set back in 2006-2007) the team tied a franchise record for regular season wins with 11 (2008), and tied total games won with 12 (2006, 2008, 2009). The Blizzard also set a franchise record for win percentage (.785), all accomplished in a 14 game schedule as compared to past records with a 16 game schedule.
In addition to the great overall team performance, the Blizzard also had several outstanding individual performances. The IFL was proud to announce that the Green Bay Blizzard had two standout players that received top recognition: Special Teams Player of the Year BJ Hill and Defensive Rookie of the Year Arkeith Brown. The Blizzard also had four players that garnered honors across the league, as voted by the coaches: BJ Hill, First Team Special Teams Kick Returner; Arkeith Brown, First Team Defensive Back; James McClinton, Second Team Defensive Line; and Josh Shene, Second Team Special Teams.
Blizzard career records were set by BJ Hill in Tackles (154) and Kickoff Return Yards (1,963). Single Season records were set by Arkeith Brown in Interceptions with 12 and Josh Shene in Field Goals Made with 31. Single Game Records were set byDeMaudray Woolridge in Touchdowns with 4, Greg Jackson in Tackles with 14, and Josh Shene in Field Goals Made with 6.
On behalf of the Green Bay Blizzard owners, coaches, players, and staff we would like to thank our fans and sponsors for a great 2011 season. With your help, we were named IFL Franchise of the Year, successfully repeated as division champions, and went undefeated at home including a playoff victory. We thank you again for your participation and we look forward to keeping in touch with you throughout the off-season.
