Indoor football league reaches out to arena

TUPELO – An indoor football league has expressed interest in playing at the BancorpSouth Arena.
During Monday’s Tupelo Coliseum Commission meeting, Todd Hunt, arena director, said a representative of the Ultimate Indoor Football
League called about starting a team in Tupelo for the 2012 season, which begins in March.
The league, which began this year, has teams in Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan. It’s also attempting to expand into Florida and Georgia.
The league could own the team, or find a local owner.
Hunt provided the league with an initial proposal that included a $4,200 per game rental rate. It was the same deal the arena offered Jim Waide, principal owner of the Mississippi MudCats, when he expressed interest in bringing indoor football back to the arena in 2012.
“These people are willing to accept our terms,” Hunt said. “I’m planning on continuing to negotiate with them.”
