IFL Coach of the Year Named Blizzard Head Coach
Green Bay, WI – The Green Bay Blizzard announce that 2011 Indoor Football League Coach of the Year, Robert Fuller, has been named as the head coach effective immediately.
Fuller is no stranger to indoor football having six years of coaching experience, four as a head coach. Most recently, he served as the Head Coach and Director of Football Operations of the Fairbanks Grizzlies. Fuller led the Grizzlies to a 10-5 record and a Pacific Division title. The team set records for franchise wins and points scored. For his efforts off the field and in the community, the IFL awarded Coach Fuller the 2011 Adam Pringle Award.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to become the head coach of one of the most respected and successful indoor football franchises in the country,” said Fuller. “To be able to become a part of the IFL Franchise of the Year and to be able to become a part of the Green Bay community is truly special. Coach Richards did a phenomenal job here and raised the bar in terms of expectations for the Blizzard. We hope to continue to build on his hard work and effort.”
Fuller also stated, “My top priority is putting a team on the field that the fans of Green Bay can be proud of. We want to be known for our blue collar work ethic and our physical style of play. We will also play with class and try to represent the Franchise of the Year and the City of Green Bay to the best of our abilities.”
Coach Fuller began his indoor coaching career in 2002 as the line coach for the Bismarck Roughriders of the NIFL. The Roughriders finished 12-4 and won the Pacific West Division title. In 2003 Robert went on to become the defensive line coach for the Omaha Beef who finished 12-4 and won the North Division title.
In 2004, Fuller received his first head coaching opportunity with the Tri-City Diesel in Kearney, NE. Taking over a team that went 4-10 the year before, he engineered one of the biggest turnarounds in the NIFL by leading the Diesel to an 11-3 regular season record, a Pacific South Division Title, and the first playoff appearance in franchise history. For his efforts, Fuller was selected as the 2004 Pacific South Division Coach of the Year.
After one season in Tri City, Fuller accepted the Head Coach and General Manager duties with the Omaha Beef in 2005. In two seasons with the Beef, his teams recorded 17 wins and extended Omaha's home playoff hosting streak to seven straight years.
In addition to indoor football, Fuller has spent five seasons coaching various positions at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. He also works as a teacher with at-risk youth for a local non-profit organization in Bismarck.
In the near future, the Blizzard will hold a press conference to introduce Robert Fuller to the media, season ticket holders and sponsors. We are currently working on the date and location.
