Sioux Falls Returns Vets and Adds New Talent to Defensive Front
November 16, 2011
The Sioux Falls Storm is excited to announce that two of its defensive line starters will return to the squad this season. Rachman Crable and Cory Johnsen will return to anchor a strong defensive line, while Shawn Kelly, Tory Collins and Maurice Harris will join a defense that gave up only 32.6 points per game on average last season (second best in the league), and sacked the opposing team 29.5 times in the regular season
Rachman Crable returns to the Storm for a fourth season after a successful 2011 campaign with the team. During the 2011 playoffs, Crable tallied 13 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. In the regular season, Crable had 28 tackles, 4.5 sacks and one forced fumble in six games played.
Cory Johnsen will be returning to the Storm for his seventh season. During his tenure with the team, the Storm have won four national championships, and Johnsen has accumulated stats that put him near the top of several Storm records, including career sacks (second with 28.5), and career tackles for loss in the postseason (second with 14).
Tory Collins joins the storm after playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, the Alaska Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL), as well as the Chicago Bears of the NFL. The 6'3" 290lb lineman played collegiate ball at Northwestern State University in Louisiana, where he was a two-time All-American. Collins also played at Louisiana State University his freshman season in 2003.
Sean Kelly comes to the Storm after an outstanding 2011 season being name 1st Team All IFL for the Bloomington Extreme of the IFL. During his one season with the Extreme, Kelly recorded 50 tackles, twelve sacks, one forced fumble and four pass breakups. Kelly also spent time with the Sioux City Bandits. Kelly played collegiately at Florida A&M, where he was named to the Division I-AA and All-MEAC Conference first team defenses.
Defensive End/Linebacker, Maurice Harris, will make his indoor football debut with the Storm. In his senior season at Mars Hill College in North Carolina, Harris led the conference in tackles for loss with 6.5, and led his region in sacks (4). For his performance, Harris was named All-American for several awards, including All American Dot Com, Associated Press Little Team, Daktronics and Don Hansen.
"Our defensive front was the deciding factor during our 2011 championship run," said Todd Tryon. "With these two vets along with our new additions, we should be well equipped to defend our title."
