chicksdigthefootball.blogspot.com/2011/11/chicks-dig-real-deal-brian-schmidt.htmlFor Part 2 of my interview with Coach Schmidt, we will talk about his players. Coach Schmidt has 3 of the top 6 receivers in the UIFL, and has re-signed several key players for Kentucky. He has added some young, exciting talent as well. Coach, I know you said you can't replace Jared Lorenzen as a quarterback but you're trying. It seems like you have a secret weapon ready to do his utmost to fill that role in Ryan Wells. I have to ask you about this kid that came out of nowhere and in his first game just caught the attention of the entire UIFL with his numbers. Tell me about Ryan. Ryan never played college ball. He came to our tryouts as an unknown 20 year old . He did so well he was offered a camp contract on the spot. None of the camp quarterbacks were really fitting our style of play. We had an intra-squad scrimmage and Ryan was 9/12 with 4 touchdowns, He played way above any expectations. We thought "One day this kid will be great." That one day came when we decided to play Ryan in our last game. Funny thing was, during the 3:30 walk thru, I don’t know who was more nervous...me, or Ryan. He came out, played, and did exactly what we asked. I love that kid. He is still developing and works hard to get better. That's rare to see from a player in a professional level.

It's nice to see an interview on players that covers something about each one. Interesting that Wells didn't play college ball, I'm curious to see how fast he picks up the indoor game once the season begins.

Yeah he obviously has some natural, totally untapped talent here. I'dlove to see him after he has a whole season of ball behind him
