Fluellen, Stuart and Seymour are committed for 2012
Nov. 23, 2011 Council Bluffs, Iowa - The Council Bluffs Express is pleased to announce they have signed Silas Fluellen, Mike Stuart and Andrew Seymour to contracts for the 2012 season.
“We are excited that we were able to sign such great talent to kick off our inaugural season,” said Express Head Coach Chuck Wright. “Each of these guys brings experience and leadership to our team. Our goal as a franchise is to bring the APFL Championship to Council Bluffs and these guys are dynamic pieces to help us reach that goal.”
Andrew Seymour (WR) – Hamline University/Iowa Blackhawks (APFL)
Seymour joins the Express after spending three seasons with the Iowa Blackhawks of the APFL. A member of the Blackhawks back to back championships teams, Seymour was awarded Second Team All APFL offense in 2010. Seymour also spent time in camp with the Omaha Beef of the IFL. While attending Hamline University, Seymour was a dual sport athlete playing both baseball and football. Some honors included being named offensive player of the year as a sophomore in football.
Mike Stuart (WR/RB) – Morningside College/Iowa Blackhawks (APFL)
Stuart joins the Express after spending three seasons with the Iowa Blackhawks of the APFL. A great leader and dual threat at the receiver and running back positions, Stuart also played a major role in the return game for the Blackhawks. At the collegiate level, Stuart showed explosive quickness to the line of scrimmage as he rushed for 1,042 yards during Morningside career. In 2004, he led the Mustangs' in rushing with 669 yards and three touchdowns in 169 carries, topped the team with average of 4.0 yards per carry and also caught six passes for 65 yards for average of 10.8 yards per reception.
Silas Fluellen (QB) – Wayne State College/Omaha Beef (IFL)/Nebraska Danger (IFL)
Fluellen joins the Express after spending time last season with the Omaha Beef and Nebraska Danger of the IFL. While at the collegiate level, Fluellen set numerous Wayne State and several Northern Sun Conference career passing and total yardage records during senior season. He was selected NSIC South Division All-Conference First Team after completing 253 of 390 passes (64.9%) for 3,253 yards and 26 TD's with just 11 interceptions. Fluellen finished his WSC career with 12,001 yards of total offense, just the ninth player in NCAA Division II history to pass the 12,000 yard mark and holds the NSIC career marks for passing yards (8,996) and total offense yardage (10,170) in NSIC games.
The Council Bluffs Express will be holding their first open tryout at the Mid America Convention Center on December 10th and 11th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with check in starting at 8 a.m.
