Updated the schedule on the first post of this thread.
Whew, finally got caught up on all my MMA Viewing this week (good thing since there's more coming this weekend). It's a lot to watch though, UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator, Ultimate Fighter (U.S. & Brazil), Inside the MMA (my favorite), and three other coverage shows.

Gustafsson sure was impressive in his win over Silva last night. His reach is definitely hard to overcome mixed with his agility and speed. I'd like to see him fight Jon Jones one day (I don't think he's quite ready for him yet, but he's getting there).

Marcin Held did it again in Bellator 68, another fantastic submission (heel hook). I really like this kid and his crazy style to get every fight to the ground so he can use his exceptional BJJ skills. He's only 20 year's old and already he's 13-2.

I saw it. It didn't impress me too much. Baszler controlled the ring, but waited mostly for McMann to attack before retaliating. Baszler has some nice kicking power, but didn't use it enough and her boxing wasn't that great, she probably would've been better served to take the fight to the ground more often. McMann's boxing is good, but I don't think she could take Rousey.

I'm getting caught up with all the MMA I missed the last 4 weeks.
GSP put on a solid performance, nice to see him back.
Saw Marcin Held in Bellator 77 and 81 in the Lightweight Tournament. He advances to the finals after his toe submission in 81. He's my favorite fighter to watch in the whole sport. He's only 20 years old, from Poland, but man is his Jiu Jitsu a thing of beauty. He's so unorthodox in how he gets people to the ground, but once he does he is relentless in going for leg and toe hooks. I've seen 4 of his fights now and all but one of them were some of the best I've ever seen. Some people don't like the ground game in MMA, but to me it's one of the best things about the sport.
I'm all caught up now except for the two Ultimate Fighter series going on right now. That will take awhile, a lot of hours to catch up there, but when you're addicted it's worth it.

I was looking forward to watching Marcin Held last night in the Bellator 84 co-main event for the Lightweight Tournament Finals, but that particular fight ended up being canceled. Bellator 84 was held in Indiana and the state laws say fighters must be 21 years old (Held doesn't turn 21 until mid-January). Bellator had thought they got permission to hold the fight with the appropriate people, but that got over-ruled right before the fight and Held wasn't allowed into the casino because of his age (even though they let him in for the weigh-in's days earlier). Now I have to wait for it to be rescheduled, probably until after March I'm hearing. $*%&^

Semi Local (Fargo) Female MMA Bout with a girl (Nina) I've trained with before she moved back to Florida. Nina Ansaroff V Jessica Holcomb-Doerner on Nov 24th (nina Wins) on.fb.me/12fCUq9Once she mounted her it was over, nice fight. I watch a lot of women's mma now, more than I used to. How did you train with her, MMA, Triathlon, or personal training? I plan to do some MMA training in March/April. Don't laugh. I have no plans to fight or anything like that, but just do a training program at an MMA gym for 2-3 weeks while I'm on vacation in Thailand. I'll probably kill myself, but it's just another way to stay in shape for me.

I cross-trained doing BJJ/MMA for about three months in early 2011 until some jackwagon didn't feel me tap in training and jacked up one of my hips, which still isn't right. Her and Shayna Baszler were both training there, and rolling with the boys. Nina punches like a sledgehammer, but (at the time, looks better now) thinks a bit too much on the ground. Finished her fight tonight in Atlanta with an armbar.
The possibility of WMMA falling under the UFC banner is an interesting one. What's Dana going to try and sell, the good looking Rousey's and Carano's or the not quite as easy on the eyes fighters? Lord knows looks don't matter for the men, cause Forrest Griffen was one ugly sumb.itch

The unfortunate reality is that looks do matter as far as women's sports go. You can see it in every sport. Is Rousey a great fighter? ... definitely. Did she get her UFC gig based solely on her fighting skills?... nope. Can this open the door for more women's fighters in the UFC though? ... definitely.
Dana White has admitted in interviews that she has star power and that she's opened a lot of doors for MMA that were previously closed. He specifically mentioned that she got on covers of magazines that previously would never feature an MMA fighter before. He's taking advantage of the star power, and it's a smart move. In the end it's a business and he's doing what's good for his business.
Women's MMA is on the rise and I don't think it can be stopped, even if the UFC Women's division doesn't last. Bellator events are featuring more women fighters now, Strikeforce just said they will continue to do so, Invicta is doing quite well as a start up women's fighting promotion, and so on. Women's MMA may have some up's and down's over the coming year's, but I believe it's here to stay.
