Silver Fox to Return for Thirteenth Season with Storm
February 22, 2012
The Sioux Falls Storm is pleased to announce that award winning sportscaster, The Silver Fox, Rich Roste will return for his thirteenth year of play-by-play broadcasting of indoor football.
Rich began his broadcasting career in 1980 as a hobby announcing football and some basketball for Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He continued doing Lyon's games for twenty years along with several years of announcing select games of the week within the northwest Iowa area. In the summer of 1998 Rich was selected to do the play-by-play for the Sioux Falls Falcons semi-pro football team, a position he held for two years before that team evolved into the Sioux Falls Cobras, an indoor football team. In 2001, new ownership took over the franchise along with joining a new league and the team became the Sioux Falls Storm.
During these past twelve seasons Rich has dedicated himself to bring to the fans of the Storm a high energy broadcast reflecting the action packed excitement on the indoor gridiron. His Registered Trademark phrase, "Holy, Help Me, Hannah" whenever the Storm has a huge play and his professional approach to sportscasting has endeared him to indoor football fans, not only of the Storm but also across the country and around the league. In 2005 he was honored by being named "IFL Radio Sportscaster of the Year". During these many years of covering the Storm, Rich has missed only two broadcasts, one for his twin daughter's high school graduation and the other for his oldest daughter's wedding.
Over the years Rich has broadcast high school and college football and basketball throughout the Sioux Falls area along with doing some work in television. This past winter Rich has been the radio voice of University of South Dakota women's basketball.
Again this season, the Sioux Falls Storm games can be heard live on KOOL 107.9 FM and also through the Storm website, siouxfallsstorm.com. Rich is also the host of the Kurtiss Riggs Show which is on Sioux Falls Sports Radio AM 1230 KWSN every Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 PM during the Storm season and broadcast live from Big Cheese Grill and Sports Bar on Tuesdays before Storm home games. However, the first Kurtiss Riggs Show will air on THURSDAY, Feb. 23rd at Big Cheese.
