Wichita at Nebraska
Coming into this game the Wichita Wild (2-4) are co-ranked #10 while the Nebraska Danger (1-4) are ranked #14.
This is the first meeting between these rivals this season. Both had subpar years last season after starting slow, but Wichita made a run to semi-respectability in the second half of the season. They seem to be mirroring that trend this year. This has the makings of being a great game though. Nebraska was strong on defense to start the season, but have been slowed by some injuries. Wichita had a killer schedule to start, but have shown they are a good team the last two weeks, even with a backup QB starting. Both teams need the win here to stay alive for playoff contention, but the Danger are definitely the more desperate team here. Wichita may be playing too good for them to keep up though.
-------------------------------------
I'm going with the Wichita Wild to get the win on the road here. Wichita has played tough in all their games against some of the best competition in the league and is now on a two game winning streak. The Danger coach talks a good game, but has yet to make an indelible mark in the win column in his two seasons as head coach (yes I know, supposedly he didn't coach last year due to a suspension, but if you believe he wasn't involved then I have a bridge for sale at a very reasonable price ... but you need to act soon before someone else grabs it).

Another "coulda, woulda, shoulda" match, but this time with the Danger on the winning end.
A brilliant first quarter, while the second quarter could possibly be the sorriest I've ever witnessed. Apparently, the team has lost faith in kicker Alex Tejada, as they chose to forgo any field goal attempts, even in chip shot range. The big puzzler was going for it on 4th and long at their own 5 yard line. A 30 yard pass to a wide open Kayne Farquharson was for naught though, as he was still running his route and hadn't turned back to watch for the ball. Stumbling and bumbling through the quarter, it was a miracle the Danger still led at the intermission. One positive... a misplayed kickoff return in the endzone almost ended in disaster as the return man juggled the ball at the wall, but a ruling of "Fan interference" actually aided the Danger for a change, with a resulting rekick.
Things didn't improve at all, as the Wild scored on a 30 yard run on the first play from scrimmage in the second half.
That's when things turned around, albeit briefly. After a head knocking touchdown by Farquaharson, where the defender met him helmet to helmet at the goal line and ended up losing the battle, the Danger quickly set themselves up for a scoring frenzy with a goal line fumble recovery and a first and goal inside the Wild 1... only to have QB Rocky Hinds cough it up himself on a QB keeper.
Two endzone interceptions by the Danger were nullified by unfortunate false start penalties where the whistles were not blown, causing a lot of confusion and frustration as the Wild retained possession each time.
A very well played 4th quarter was marred only by an inexplicable shanked kickoff by Tejada that nearly cleared the top row of the stands at the 25 yard line, resulting in a Wild possession starting at the Danger 10 with less than a minute to play. At that point, the defense only put up a token effort and gave the Wild a little more respectable final score.
The Wild scored 15 of their 27 points on drives of 10 yards or less, so in the long run, the Danger D had an extremely good effort. The offense was a combination of bizarre play calls or execution and brilliantly executed completions to the second or third receiver.
I still think the Danger has been the more talented team on the field in most of their games, but lacked a cohesive effort. This one could have gone south again, but they sucked it up and got a win.

I heard that the Danger lost there kicker early in the first quarter. I believe teh backup quarterback was kicking off teh rest of the game. Thats why teh Danger had to continue to go for it during the game. I was about 6 rows back for the bench and it looked and sounded like the Danger players are starting to come together. I guess we will see considering they travel to Sioux falls next week.

Dwight Dasher was doing the kickoffs. I noticed that someone was coming off the field in crutches at halftime and I wonder if it wasn't Tejada.

I understand they didn't have a lot of confidence in Tejada to begin with and were babying him recently, but that looks to have gone out the window now (along with what's left of his confidence). I think I still would've had him kick from deep in your own territory though instead of going for it on 4th and long. 4th and short I can see taking a chance with though. I always thought fan interference didn't work for the home team, only the away team. Seems like a bad call that should've been a safety I think. I'll have to look at the rulebook to see if fan interference is defined at all. A good win, and much needed, for the Danger.

Will the Danger still have the "best" players on the field in that one?

I talked to hi after the game and he heard a pop in his knee on a kickoff early in the game. It is very unfortunate because ever since Rocky Hindes has shown up our FG team has seemed to be clicking and he had been getting better at kicking. Too bad hopefully he can come back soon.
