Now I just heard about this today. I knew about other teams that have been approached in other leagues but here we go. The AFDL(new name for the af2) has been out looking for teams to become farm teams for the AFL. Tri-Cites has been approached by Spokane and San Jose. We all know Carr has good ties with the AFL. Green Bay has been approached by Milwaukee. Now the big one is the Storm has been approached by Kansas City. That is all I have heard for now. I do also know that my Tarpons were approached by both Orlando and Tampa but refused because of cost increases. Anyway just about three IFL teams that have been approached that I know of but there may be more.

Two things that would concern me, if I were the Storm, about such a move: 1) The cost and 2) Potential loss of team control in terms of roster makeup, etc. In most developmental leagues, the parent club has a huge say in who makes the team, who gets the playing time, play calling schemes/philopsophies, etc. That would be a huge concern of mine.

This wouldnt be feasible for the Storm until the new event center is completed in a couple of years. The SF Arena is bad for indoor ball, but Arena style would be impossible. Several people that are upset with the IFL this year have said SF should jump to AFl or AFDL. As much as I think that SF needs out of the IFL, something inside me says that going the Arena route isnt the right thing. I have seen the SF Skyforce go from being a tean that fans would get behind becuase they would get to know them, now attendance is down and I think it is in large part because they are affiliated with the NBA D-League and there is a revolving door on their roster.

However, I think with as frustrated and fed up as Tryon is with the IFL right now everything is on the table and anything is being considered.

Agree with everything previously said. The sports fans in Sioux Falls on the whole are a fickle lot. They stopped going to Basketball games because you never knew who was going to be playing, and they stopped going to baseball games for two years because, get this, the name changed from Canaries to Pheasants.
I would even posit the idea that Storm attendance is down (slightly) from the 2004-2008 years because most or the players aren't local anymore. You know signing Tyler Shulte would sell 50 season tickets immediately

I didn't stop going to Canaries (still calling them that, don't like the Pheasants, I'm THAT guy) games because I never started going.
Also, I don't think it is a coincidence that attendance drops once the weather gets nice out. I also agree with the loss of the local flavor to the team roster, but I think that it may have had more to do with the abpurt change of that. We lost a lot of really good, local players all within a matter of a couple seasons. One year we had a group of local players the next season it was all guys from somewhere else.

The only draw of a developmental league is that you might get to see a superstar in the making...see a star before he becomes a star. You're not goign to get that draw with the AFDL. Most people in America(let alone SF) could name you a star in the AFL. It just doesn't have that big of a following.
Roster turnover has killed the Skyforce. They won titles(and sold lots of tickets) with a roster full of veteran players. The went the NBDL direction and now have a bunch of young "projects" who are not as entertaining to watch. The focus of every team in the league is not necessarily to win first.

The focus of every team in the league is not necessarily to win first. WHAT?! Say it aint so! LOL I think most fans, whether it be die-hards, or even the casual fan, would prefer a consistent roster to the potential of being able to say "hey I saw so and so play before he signed his big deal" When people find out I'm a indoor football nut and a Storm fanatic, they ask all the time, hey is Blackburn still playing or some other good past player. I think a consistent roster and consistent product and changing leagues is better than going to a D league and having the revolving door of personnel. I also think that the owners who try and get into minor league sports to make money first are destined to fail. I don;t know much about the financial situation of the Storm (but if you ask some people, they must be rolling in it because of the money, cars, etc. they are throwing at the players, insert pic of 1985 van here) but I think winning will make the money fall into place. It's a lot easier to sell tickets and ads to a team that is winning rather than a team that is losing but has "potential" stars.

There's a reason that a lot of people, myself included get an instant smile when they hear the first three notes of "Here I Go" by Mystikal

I believe that a lot of indoor teams are being approached by Kurz, but I doubt Tri-Cities, Green Bay, or Sioux Falls would actually go to the AFL/AFDL. I do see a couple of new indoor football leagues starting next year though, which will probably make teams jump and shift around.

Do you think SF could lure SC into a league with them if we promised to only cheat "a little bit?" LOL j/k Don't forget, Bob Scott once owned the Storm. On bye weeks, Riggs and some of the other coaches would go to SC to scout the Bandits for an upcoming game. Riggs refused to buy popcorn or anything else because he didn't want to give anymore money to Bob Scott then he absolutley had to..
