MARION - The Marion Blue Racers completed their opening two-week homestand with a second victory, defeating the Western Pennsylvania Sting 68-27 on Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Blue Racers scored on their first three possessions.
They took the opening kickoff, and four plays later Harris completed a 35-yard pass to Daniel Stover that bounced off a Sting defender.
The point-after kick failed, but the Blue Racers quickly got the ball back as Dontrellius Burrows intercepted a Rod Rutherford pass at midfield. Four plays later, Victor Tolbert smashed over from 1 yard out for the touchdown.
Another Sting turnover, this time a fumble, led to an 11-yard pass from Harris to Boo Jackson for a touchdown. The duo hooked up for the two-point conversion and the Blue Racers held a 21-0 advantage with 3:31 left in the first quarter.
Western Pennsylvania got on the board on the first play of the second quarter on a 2-yard run by Rod Rutherford.
But Tolbert returned the ensuing kickoff to the Sting 4-yardline, and two plays Tolbert smashed into the end zone on a 1-yard blast. Trey Kramer added the extra point to increase Marion's lead to 28-6.
A 14-yard pass from Harris to Stover upped the margin to 35-6 before the end of the first half.
The Blue Racers added two touchdowns in the third quarter, including a o1-yard quake by Blue Racers big man J.T. Haynes.
Also scoring for Marion was Victor Rodriguez, who returned a fumble 29 yards for a touchdown.
The Sting scored on the final play of the third quarter on a 3-yard pass from Rutherford to Nate Ford to make it 49-12.
After giving up a one-point safety when the kick returner was tackled in the end zone, the Blue Racers scored on a 45-yard pass from Harris to Stover to make it 55-13.
But the Sting picked two touchdowns, including a 35-yard interception return by Bruce Thornton, to cut the lead to 55-27.
Harris added a touchdown for Marion on a one-yard plunge and a 51-yard interception return by Burrows for another six points.
