The Colorado Lightning will join the APFL for the 2012 season. No word on whether they'll be a full-fledged team or not yet. They'll play in the Colorado Sports Center in Monument (just outside Denver). freeteams.net/coloradolightning/index.html

On behalf of the Colorado Lightning organization, we are extremely excited about our affiliation with the APFL for the 2012 season. We held our third round of tryouts in Aurora, CO yesterday and were very pleased with what we saw. Three more athletes signed contracts and will be joining a group of 30 who were sign from previous work outs. Head Coach/ Director of Football Operatons, Timothy Wright, a New York native and former indoor player and coach with experience in the NIFL, PIFL, IPFL and AF2 indicated, " he is eager to begin play." Colorado will open training camp in January in the Denver Metro area. Most recently the Lightning signed 6'7" 330lb Jason White (former Tennessee Titan OL0 to anchor its offensive line.

The American Professional Football League finally acknowledged (via their facebook page) that the Colorado Lightning will be joining the league for the 2012 season.
Phrasing it 'as of December 2011' most likely means that there are indeed more teams to come, as rumored.www.facebook.com/apflfootball
