LAKELAND | The Lakeland Raiders defense accounted for seven sacks, three safeties, two interceptions and two touchdowns in a 78-0 victory over Sarasota Saturday night in front of 3,000 fans at the Lakeland Center.
Lakeland native Kedrick Stewart had three and a half sacks, seven quarterback pressures and a 25-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Sarasota pressured Lakeland just once. Following an interception late in the third quarter, the Thunder worked the ball down to the Raiders’ 2-yard line. That’s as far as they would get. Stewart picked up a Sarasota fumble and took it back for a score, killing the best scoring chance the Thunder had all night.

The Thunder were asking for Linemen on facebook the morning after the game. From the photos I could see at least one player playing both ways on the line. I am sure there were more.
LAKELAND | The Lakeland Raiders defense accounted for seven sacks, three safeties, two interceptions and two touchdowns in a 78-0 victory over Sarasota in front of 3,000 fans Saturday night at the Lakeland Center.
Lakeland native Kendrick Stewart led the way with three and a half sacks, seven quarterback pressures and a 25-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Sarasota pressured the Raiders just once. After forcing the Raiders' only turnover of the night, the Thunder worked the ball down to the Raiders' 2-yard line.
Three downs later, following a holding penalty that bounced them back to the 12, Stewart picked up a bad snap and raced into the end zone or his touchdown.
Stewart wasn't the only Raiders defensive linemen to have his way with Sarasota's offensive line. Munir Muwwakkil had two sacks and three pressures, Stephen Coleman had half a sack and Conor Reilley had two sacks and two safeties.
Things were so bad for Sarasota that after its starting quarterback was knocked out of the game, the backup got into a shouting match with his head coach and offensive line over the lack of protection.
"I give them credit, they came out and played hard," Stewart, who played college football at Florida State, said. "We just have to keep improving every week. We have to go into the bye week and get healthy. We can't take anything lightly and we need to get ready to play at the (Florida) Tarpons.
I've had them (Florida) marked on my calendar."
Fill-in quarterback Collin Drafts accounted for five touchdowns and 120 yards.
Sergio Allen had two receptions for 38 yards and a score. Josh Smith had two touchdown receptions, while Adrian Smith and Tyrece Gaines each had a touchdown.
Tyler Batts and Chris Poindexter each had touchdown runs.
The Raiders (2-0) are on a bye next week and then face their nemesis the Florida Tarpons in back-to-back weeks.
Lakeland will face Florida on March 24 on the road and then get a rematch with the Tarpons at The Lakeland Center on March 30.
Lakeland hasn't beaten its in-state rival in three attempts. The Raiders were 2-0 last season as well before falling to the Tarpons 62-47 in week three on the road.
