QB Lee Chapple Led the Beef to win over Haymakers Friday Night
Omaha, NE – The Omaha Beef kicked off the 2014 campaign with a win against the Lincoln Haymakers inside the Ralston Arena Friday night in front of one of the largest Beef crowds in recent history. A fourth quarter drive pushed Omaha ahead to cement the 29-27 win. Quarterback Lee Chapple hit veteran WR Beau Kildow for the late score that would ultimately seal the game. Last season the Beef and Haymakers rivalry produced several close battles and Friday night’s game was no different.
Lincoln jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but a standout performance by emerging star quarterback Lee Chapple eventually outmatched the Haymakers talented secondary. Chapple passed for 3 touchdowns while putting his athletic ability on display escaping the Haymakers pass rush throughout the game. Lincoln was leading 14-7 and driving late in the second half until All CPIFL Defensive back Courtney Grixby’s interception returned for a touchdown put the Beef back in the game.
Coach Heimann commented on Chapple’s outstanding play Friday night. “Chapple took a big step forward in leading our team this week. He did exactly what you’d want your QB to do; taking the team down the field scoring with the game on the line.” Coach Heimann was impressed with several of his veteran leaders as well. “You can’t say enough about Beau Kildow’s effort Friday night. He was a huge part in helping Lee progress and the guy is as clutch as they come.” The Defensive side of the ball also had plenty to showcase after the performance. “Grixby did exactly what he does making plays and again you see our veteran guys stepping up like Chris Bradford blocking a field goal to keep us in the game.”
