I could write a hundred page book about today's game, but i'll try to keep it short. This will be the first year the beef don't make the playoffs. You can say us beef fans have been spoiled over the last 15 years by having competitive teams, but this year will sorely disappoint. In my opinion, I don't think this ownership group wants to put forth the effort to get legitimate talent in here. I think their more worried about how many people they can get in the door, which is fine at times, but if the team isn't competitive then people wont show up. I like the effort the team showed today. They showed a lot of heart by fighting back and getting the deficit down to two touchdowns. We are extremely undersized and un-athletic(if that's a word) at a few key positions. I'm going to have nightmares thinking of dodge cities running back beating our lineman and d-backs to the edge. They need to learn how to get off blocks faster and beat the running back to the whole. It happened in the preseason game too. Our starting right tackle might be 250 pounds...that's being generous... and that's going up against a d-lineman who are probably 300 pounds or more. We had no answer on defense at all. Our defensive backs were getting plowed over by Dodge cities wide receivers. We need to go out and find some guys with size. We had it on the team last year there shouldn't be any reason we can't get it this year. The secondary looks absolutely confused out there, but hopefully that's something that can get fixed with coaching...don't get me started on that one though. We have a good core group of guys, but the supporting role they brought in is absolute ****. Let's see if the ownership has any balls to make some tough decisions and cut some guys. I know people are going to come on here and say their limited to the number of out of state players they can bring in. I know that...but we can do better...much better. There's a few guys from last year's team that needs to be called and on a flight to Omaha.

Most of us expected this, so it's not much of a shock.
I don't think the Beef are a bottom level team in the league with what they have now though, I think they're middle of the pack (but unfortunately will be sitting out come playoff time).
I'll be rooting for them to improve though and still back them 100%. They did show heart by playing strong in the third quarter and didn't give up against a superior football team (they may be an expansion team, but they have a solid roster).
Ownership brought back O.J. Simpson this past week, so maybe that's a sign that they could potentially continue to upgrade the roster as things progress. Even if they stand pat, we'll still have an okay team, just not one we're used to. Yeah, we have been spoiled, but in the big scheme of things no one's been as spoiled as Sioux Falls fans ... we're pikers compared to them. We have to support the team no matter what ownership does though. If I stopped following my teams because of the ownership I would be following any teams. At least we still have a team and as long as we do hope springs eternal, ha ha.
Go BEEF!

We might have to eat some crow when we play the Bandits this year, which will suck. I hope the team can at least continue the tradition of pounding on Sioux City.

If I had to guess, and it's still early, the likely four playoff teams will be Wichita, Dodge City, Salina, and Sioux City. The Beef will be in the middle with Bloomington and Oklahoma. Kansas and Lincoln will occupy the bottom.

Looking at the schedule, I got the Beef at 6-6 if they can come out on top over Bloomington. Best case scenario is if they improve, then perhaps they can pull of an upset and sneak into the playoffs (but as of right now that looks to be an extreme reach). I've had them out of the playoff picture before though and they fought back and got in.

Plenty of times this team has started off 2-4 or something like that and fought back into the playoffs. There's just a different feeling this year. I think it's because so many past season ticket holders being pushed away by this ownership group, madcow espcially. Curse of madcow maybe...haha.The one thing I disagree with you on is Oklahoma's seeding. I was very impressed with their roster signings this year. I think they'll be solid.

Oklahoma's biggest question will be quarterback play. If they get solid play out of that position i think they'll be good. Nice group of wide receivers and that stud from the detroit lions/Oklahoma sooners will eventually make an impact.

There are at least 7 or 8 High School teams in Nebraska that could compete with Kansas...no sarcasm...just based on organization of how that team has been constructed. The point here is Omaha has a complete cupcake this week and better hang 60 plus on this horrible "professional" football partially assembled group...can't even say "Team". Your right Beeffan---don't sleep on Oklahoma.

I've had a bad feeling about this season since november, but that preseason game against lincoln was a good indicator too. Wichita beats them by 60 and we win by 2....no offense to Lincoln either their just not there yet.

Apologies on taking so long to reply been busy work weeks... glad to finally have some intelligent conversation.
I think the Beef at .500 is a good call... The Beef Oline is bad I hate to see what is going to happen when they play teams like Wichita and SC going to be rough... All I can say about the owners is dumb... how are you going to own two teams in the league... having OJ is a good thing but hate to say it hes starting to get old... this might just be a down year for the league as a whole as it is... and I know the Beef had great teams in the past and they could have a great team again this year but when you pay money for wasted talents like an Oline that is terrible what do you expect. Im not trying to hate on these athletes by any means but there is better talent in the Omaha area then that.

The Beef struggled with Kansas for over a half ... not a good sign for the rest of their season. 6-6 is probably best case scenario at this point. I don't see them getting any upset wins anymore. Will still be rooting for them to though.

Good news for the Beef is that they have the Haymakers twice. And since Rich Tokheim, the owner of the Beef, bought the Haymakers, the Haymakers have become absolutely inept. Not sure if this is intentional, but when you "trade" away your best defensive to your other team for nothing...it would appear that he does not want Lincoln to be competitive.

They have four "should be guarantee" wins on the schedule (2 vs Lincoln and 2 vs Kansas). I said "should be" because they sure struggled against Kansas for over a half, even trailing ... which shouldn't happen. 2 games against Bloomington will be key, because if they win those they'll be 6-6 at worst. Then they'd have to upset the other teams on their schedule to get beyond that and right now that's not looking very probable.

Matt moss will absolutely tear up the oline. Luckily we only play them once this year.
