Something to chew on… I closely followed the APFL season in 2011, and from the get-go was excited to see what the Sioux City Bandits would do in the league. As expected they were very well coached, dominant, and at most times played flawlessly. My gripe is how some of their fans responded to how dominant and flawless they were this season. At face value they are too good for the APFL – which is only partly true.
Better competition is a very legitimate gripe in the APFL. However, you have to keep in mind that the Blackhawks were only a few days away from folding before being bought. After the sale they had a soft three weeks to recruit and prepare for the season. With that short of a timeline they weren’t able to make the necessary adjustments and upgrades needed to improve. Ask yourself, would the Bandits have been that good with only three weeks to form a team?
My true gripe is from Bandit fans that say, “This championship means less than if it was in the IFL against ‘real’ competition.” Well, there’s little argument there. But, does the Sioux Falls Storm championship mean less because it wasn’t won in the AFL? Does it mean less because it wasn’t in the CFL or NFL? Should the Storm fans demand that they move from the IFL to the AFL because the IFL teams weren’t ‘competitive enough’ this season? No. Sioux Falls dominated because they prepared and recruited better than their competition. Same goes for Sioux City. The Bandits coaches and players deserve every bit of their championship and their fans should appreciate that regardless. It’s not always going to be that easy.
I give major props to Jarrod DeGeorgia and John Zevenbergen for putting together an amazing team within the APFL guidelines. Well done.

The Storm didnt move from one league to the next.
In Sioux City the Heelan Crusaders (High School) moved down a level and have won a few state titles in different sports and no one seems to mind.

Does the Storm victory mean less because we didn't beat a Dixon lead Billings team.. I don't know.. but the parallel is still there..
