ROACH RAMBLES INTO POSTSEASON

Stats usually don’t lie. Eyes lie even less. How ever you chose to look at it, Marirose Roach is the best player in the LFL, hands down. If you don’t think so, then it’s time to get your eyes checked. The Philadelphia running back/quarterback/defensive standout/butcher/baker/candlestick maker is running over opponents and has her undefeated squad making a serious run toward the Lingerie Bowl. The other teams need to start to figure out how in the world to contain her enough to topple the Passion. Otherwise, the outcome of the season is a forgone conclusion.
The numbers are impressive. Very impressive. Roach has almost 400 yards rushing and she’s scored a ridiculous amount of touchdowns. Twelve on the ground and two by reception. She’s thrown for two more. The rest of her team combined barely has more than half the touchdowns Roach has accumulated. She also has a boat load of conversions, making Philadelphia nearly impossible to stop on PAT attempts. You think that’s scary? That’s just offense. On defense she’s just as potent. She’s second on the team in tackles and sacks.
Those are the numbers. But they hardly tell the full story. You have to see Roach live to really appreciate what she’s doing. She simply runs harder than anyone else. She hits harder than anyone else. If you do not wrap her up immediately, she is gone. Not for a big gain or a first down…gone as in pay dirt. You have one chance to grab her. Fail and it’s six points. More likely seven or eight points.
All leagues have the best of the best. But Brady knows Manning’s right there, Kobe realizes Durant is getting close, Ovechkin and Crosby are always neck and neck. I don’t see Roach’s peer. I really don’t. This league has great stars. Superstars. You know the names. None shine as bright as the player they simply call ‘M.R.’.
Roach’s overall physical ability is matched by her versatility. A powerful, bruising running back that can out run anyone. So very valuable at her position. But who did the Passion turn to when their quarterback went down with a broken hand? Roach. Not a back-up, more traditional quarterback, but their all-world franchise back. She played admirably.
Granted, her stats as signal caller are nothing to write home about. Passing is certainly not her strong suit. But she did what she had to do. Roach played under center in the second half against Orlando and started at QB in Tampa. Two Passion victories.
Recently the nominations for the end of the season awards came out. Roach is up for MVP, Rookie of the Year, and Offensive Player of the Year. She is deserving of all three honors. At this point I wouldn’t bat an eye if she also got considered for a Pulitzer, the Nobel Peace Prize, and every Girl Scout badge in existence. In addition, Roach has been named the starting running back for the Eastern Conference All-Fantasy team. Honestly though, I think President Obama needs to launch a national investigation into why she isn’t up for Defensive Player of the Year nor on the All-Fantasy defense. She’s that good.
Some believe too good. Players have voiced frustration over how to stop her. Some have called Philadelphia a one-person team. It will be interesting to see how the clubs left standing approach the unenviable task of containing Roach in the postseason. They should be counting their lucky stars that the new passing rules were instituted this season. Imagine teams could run three out of four downs instead of just two out of four? Roach right, Roach left, Roach middle, ball game.
So what will the Breeze do in the playoffs against this phenom? Or will it be the Western Conference winner who figures her out. Philly fans are banking on no one stopping Roach enough to matter. You’d think a coaching staff would order two players on their defense to stay with her no matter what. Two spies every play. Think about it. If she has the ball, go get her. If she doesn’t have it, stay with her anyway and hope your five other players can stop the second or third option. It may be the only hope. Coaching stubbornness will likely win out and teams will continue to treat her like any other player. Nice locker room talk. Poor football management. If that’s the plan the rest of the way the Passion takes the crown with ease.
Tampa, Chicago, and Los Angeles can all make the case that top to bottom they have a better roster than Philadelphia. No one has a weapon like Roach however. So it’s decision time if you wear a different color than green. Are you going to Jacksonville and potentially Vegas to celebrate the warm weather and a championship or will you just be heading blindly into the Roach motel? Where as we all know, you can check in but you can’t check out.
