Erie Explosion Join UIFL

ATHENS, GA - The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) is pleased to announce another existing team has joined the ranks for the 2012 season.
"We are excited about the direction of the UIFL," said Erie owner Bill Stafford. "They are building an organization that is owner, player and fan friendly. We are looking forward to a long lasting relationship with the UIFL."
Joining from the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) will be the Erie Explosion. The Explosion becomes the third existing team to be added to the league this season. The Cincinnati Commandos and the Marion Blue Racers, both from the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL), were announced in June.
It marks the third expansion team that qualified for the playoffs in their respective leagues. Cincinnati and Marion competed for the CIFL crown in July.
The Explosion, which plays their games in the Louis J. Tullio Arena, will be in the league's Northern Division. The exact alignment of the two divisions will be announced prior to the schedule release in October. Two Erie players - Roosevelt Benjamin and Darmel Whitfield - played for Canton in the Cougars first two games of the 2010 season.
"The addition of Erie adds to the UIFL talent pool," said UIFL league president Andrew Haines. "Any time you can bring a team with playoff pedigree, you are enhancing the level of your league."
