Chicago vs. Dayton
Dayton bounced back into the win column with a big win over visiting Chicago 37-20 at Dayton’s Hara Arena. The win moved the Silverbacks to 5-5 overall and they closed out their regular season at .500, finishing with the third season in the 2011 CIFL Playoffs. Chicago has one game left before closing out the regular year. The loss left them with a 4-5 record and the fourth seed.
The Silverbacks jumped on the visiting Knights in the first quarter when Hubbard kicked a 32 yard field goal and Dayton led 3-0. The Silverbacks then proceeded to score a touchdown when Davis blocked a field goal and went the distance to make the score 10-0. It stayed this way at the end of the quarter.
In the second stanza, Chicago scored quickly. Eight seconds into the quarter, Willie Tolon caught a 13 yard pass from Brandon Jewett to close the score to 10-6. Chicago scored a minute later when Martel Taylor returned a 47 yard interception and the Knights led 12-10. In the final two minutes of the quarter, Dayton scored on a 36 yard pass from Bruce Jones to Daniel Stover to make the score 16-12. With 33 seconds left in the half, Dayton scored when Mychal Davis returned a 27 yard fumble for a touchdown to make the halftime score 23-12.
The score remained 23-12 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Dayton scored first on a eight yard pass from Jones to Melvin Bryant. Chicago then recorded a safety to close the gap to 30-14. The Knights scored again on a 1 yard by Jewett and it was 30-20. The final score came on 47 yard interception return by Jones.
For the game, Chicago was led by quarterback Jewett, who completed 12 of 33 passes for 115 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions. His top target was Tolon, who had 10 receptions for 111 yards and one touchdown. Jewett led the team in rushing with 26 yards on nine carries. On defense, Odigie led the Knights with three assisted tackles and two unassisted tackles.
The host Silverbacks were led by quarterback Jones who completed five of 12 passes with 71 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw one interception. His top receiver was Stover, who had four catches for 63 yards and one touchdown. The leading rusher was Ronald Russell with nine yards on six carries. The top defender was Viterio Jones, who had five unassisted tackles, three assisted tackles, one interception and one blocked field goal.
Dayton is now off as they prepare for the league playoffs while Chicago will wrap up their season next Sunday as they host Marion.
Indianapolis vs. Marion
The Enforcers continue to show signs of improvement on the season but the progress made was not enough to defeat the second place Blue Racers at Marion as the Enforcers fell 73-12.
Indianapolis grabbed its first lead of the season when Montez Williams caught a two yard pass from DeMarcus Simons and led 6-0. The score remained that way after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Marion exploded for 31 points. The Blue Racers scored on a 10 yard run by Christen Haywood 13 seconds into the second stanza. Marion led 7-6. Marion added a 31 yard field goal by Tyler Lorenz and led 10-6. The Enforcers took the lead back when Shannon Russell caught a 29 yard pass from Simons, to lead 12-10. The Blue Racers then tacked on three more scores in the final 2:25 seconds when Brandon Williams caught a four yard pass from Joshua Harris, then Mike Tatum caught a 32 yard pass and in the final 10 seconds Williams caught another 26 yard pass from Harris. The halftime score was 31-12.
The third stanza opened with Marc Huddleston scoring on a four yard run followed by a 35 yard pass from Harris to Huddleston. The third period ended with Marion on top 45-12. The fourth quarter belonged to the host as well as Tatum caught a 41 yard pass from Harris, Huddleston ran in from 18 yards out followed by Jared Dorn recovering a 28 yard fumble for a touchdown and Victor Tolbert capped the scoring with a 32 yard run.
With the win, Marion improved to 7-1 on the season and is half game behind first place Cincinnati. Meanwhile, Indianapolis fell to 1-8.

The Blue Racers were led on offense by quarterback Harris, who completed seven of 11 passes for 140 yards and five touchdowns. His top receiver was Tatum, who had three receptions for 76 yards and two scores. The top rusher was Tolbert, who had 38 yards on two carries and one touchdown. Bryceson Lawrence who had eight tackles and four assisted tackles.
Marion will travel to Loves Park, Illinois on Sunday to face the Chicago Knights while Indianapolis will travel to Cincinnati Saturday night to end their inaugural season.
