The guys that work the oil rigs/oil fields. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is from a local fan over on the OSC forum; www.oursportscentral.com/boards/showthread.php?t=14361&page=15(mudbugsfan) Ok, I need to settle this little argument. Louisiana is different, its weird. The "official" Acadiana definition is from the Texas Border to Houma practically, if you search, you can get a map. This would mean that Lake Charles and Houma would be considered Acadiana. Lafayette has decided to take under the "Acadiana" name to describe itself, and its surrounding parishes(if you dont know what a parish is, it is the equivalent to a county). For example, when the local television station, KATC, does a "Around Acadiana", the speak of Iberia Parish, Lafayette, St.Martinville, Acadia, etc. They do not speak of Lake Charles or Houma, therefore, Lafayette kind of stole the name and kept it for itself. Acadiana High School is in Lafayette Parish. Though Acadiana is larger in population, its a nickname, and is unknown not only to tourist, but as well to its residents. Lafayette is just easier to market. As far a the nickname, it is hard to market the name Mudbugs, like Acadiana, it is unknown to tourist as well as residents, surprisingly. I can say I really like the Mudbug name, but hey, Im cajun, I know these things, Acadiana Mudbugs was one of the best names in my mind. The main reason for the name change was marketability. Lafayette is a big oil town, you can read the book Friday Night Lights, and they mention how big of a oil city Lafayette is. We have a section of town as the Oil Center, which is less than two miles away from Blackham and Cajundome. Wildcatter is just a better name to market.

Acadiana Mudbugs Become Lafayette WildcattersAugust 17, 2009 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) Lafayette Wildcatters With the second season of the Southern Indoor Football League approaching, the Acadiana Mudbugs have changed their name to the Lafayette Wildcatters and their colors to red, gold and black. The Wildcatters wanted to be associated with The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the local college, whose colors are vermilion red and black. Southern Louisiana is known for housing many oil and gas related companies. The proximity of Lafayette to the Gulf of Mexico makes it the premier hub for companies and service companies. The Wildcatters, whose home is Lafayette, want local sponsors. So far, Dynamic Industries, C&G Boats and Linear Control have signed on to help with 2010 season. A wildcatter, a person who drills oil and gas wells in areas that are not know in advance to have oil, hopes to be successful. SIFL, a new league, is similarly trying to be successful by finding its place in the hearts of the local football fan. "I think this name change will work well for the team," said SIFL President Thom Hager. "The new name will represent Lafayette very well since a large portion of their population works in the oil and gas industries." The new Lafayette Wildcatters website, www.lafayettewildcatters.com, will be launched by the end of this week. Fans can stay tuned for information on the offseason and on both upcoming player and cheerleader open tryouts.

I rather liked the Acadiana Mudbugs name, it was certainly unique. It wasn't unique in the fact that it was almost a carbon copy of the name and logo used by the Bossier City/Shreveport Mudbugs of the CHL.

There is no need to take shots at his teams when he is voicing there opinion about the two teams logos. They look very similar to me as well.

Me take a shot? Surely, you jest.
I know, stop calling you Shirley.
The question is moot, any how. The Acadiana Mudbugs are now the Lafayette Wildcatters, and IMHO, have an excellent logo.
Tell Chad Dittman I said hello and we missed him at the meeting.

First off there was the Texas Wildcatters in the ECHL. Very rarely will you find a new name. But then who knew the name "Shock" would sell so well?

Houma is no longer listed in the standings on the SIFL website. Could be nothing but I thought it was rather odd.
Looks like those Scorpions games I asked about did happen and they got crushed twice. These Punishers could indeed be good enough to at least compete if they are already blowing out semipros.
