FT. MYERS, FL - The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) is announcing that the Saginaw Sting has been suspended indefinitely from the league.
The decision to suspend the team comes after the owners of the team have failed to maintain the standards to be a part of the league. Not only were the league obligations not followed, but the ownership group ceased communication with league officials along with lack of work within the Saginaw community prompting the decision.
"This is a decision that we didn't reach hastily or easily," said UIFL president Andrew Haines. "We have given the Sting as much latitude as possible, but we feel it's in the best interest of the league and our teams to take this step. We are committed to making sure the UIFL and its teams are viable. This move, while unfortunate, strengthens the league as a whole."
Plans for a 16th team are in the works, and an announcement will be made relatively soon.
The Ultimate Indoor Football League will begin its second season in early March as a 16-team league, expanding from six teams in its inaugural season.
