espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4688991/pearson-allen-wrangers-close-to-signing-terrell-owensFormer Cowboys WR Drew Pearson just announced on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM that the Allen Wrangers of the Indoor Football League is close to signing Terrell Owens. Pearson is the team’s GM. He said the deal is for salary and part-ownership of the team. “It won’t be T.O. anymore. It will be Terrell Owens," Pearson said on Galloway and Company. "We’re very close. Jon Frankel, our owner, has been working on this for quite some time now. When he started, he felt there was maybe about a zero percent chance he could get it done, but through his persistent efforts and really wanting to make this happen, he has been able to make contact with their people. Now it’s in a stage where he thinks it’s at the point where it’s about 70 percent done and close to being finalized, so we’ll see how it shakes out from this point. "But T.O. is interested. It’s a deal that includes salary and ownership, and I think that’s why he’s attracted to it – the ownership aspect more than anything. We all could use the money. But the ownership aspect – what is T.O. going to do with his life after football, which is almost here and a reality to him. So he’s probably thinking about that. He sees that as an opportunity."

I just saw that as well. How the mighty have fallen...lol. It will be interesting to see how this works out during the season for sure. This will definitely give the league more press, but I'm wondering if in the end it won't kill the Wranglers financially and have them end up folding.

"The compensation package, which is within the rules of the Indoor Football League, would be $250,000 up to $500,000."
hmmmmm

when this was first mentioned back in October the league or Allen actually has a PR to clarify the compensation.. www.oursportscentral.com/serv...es/?id=4313566Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League supports its teams who are trying to sign NFL veteran Terrell Owens. Efforts are continuing with team's negotiations into this week. Last week, the IFL's Allen Wranglers, offered Owens the standard IFL wages to play for the suburban Dallas team. In addition, team owners offered a substantial wage for employment with their consulting firm. So, there we have it. FINALLY... it IS "legal" for owners to put players on their own (non team) payroll according to the IFL by-laws. So the $200 a game deal is basically a joke, as we always knew it was.. but now we know it's legal..

I have to disagree with you on it being legal before, although we know many teams did it. The IFL is only going along with this rule tweak because of the publicity it brings the league. Now they have to deal with the consequences of making this above board as many teams will be sure to take advantage of it even moreso.

It's great for publicity but I still say they've got to be completely out of their minds. Not to suggest that sanity is a common thing around here.

First, I can't wait for the first Storm fan to complain about this if it happens. That will be priceless.
Second, this may not be that bad of business move by the Allen franchise. They say their arena holds 6,000 fans. If they sold every ticket all year long at an average price of $15 they would generate $630,000. Pluse you would think their sponsorships would increase. If they get some concessions from the arena that could be substantial as well with that many fans. Merchandise and Owens jerseys should also sell well.
Lastly, the teams they play on the road will sellout when Allen comes to town. This is a good deal for those owners as well. They don't have to pay the salary, but get the benefit of the sellout when TO comes to town. This could be another reason why the rest of the owners would look the other way as far as the rules go.

First, I can't wait for the first Storm fan to complain about this if it happens. That will be priceless. Now why would a storm fan complain about this. I think we proved we don't put our value in a wr, since we traded away the best wr in league history. Put your money into a qb, OL and DL. I personally think this would be great for the league. They already are getting some great publicity from this. I cannot wait to see how our minimum wage team stacks up against this juggernaut Allen team on April 14!

I'll be shocked if this actually happens and if he actually plays the entire season. Not sure why a team would want to dole out that much cash to a 38 yr old wide receiver. I honestly don't see it paying off with a large enough increase in ticket and merchandise sales to make it worth Allen's wild. But, if it does, good for them.
It will be interesting to see if this catches on and other teams start adding players to the staff at their "consulting" firm. Tiki Barber is still out there. Just sayin'.

First of all, there is not a Storm fan that I know that actually thinks our guys are making just $200 a game.. "minimum wage" my backside. But apparently it's all legal in this league so long as the books are done right...
My only complaint would be not being able to get to Allen in April..

Cash is hard to trace. I got a great story about that, but it'll have to wait for another day.

But apparently it's all legal in this league so long as the books are done right... You are absolutely right. As long as the books are done right it has been legal. Every team owner, GM, coach, and player has been aware of this for years. The complaining about paying over the cap has been largly a fan driven issue. You rarely see team owners or GM's complain about it. But I guarantee Storm fans are going to be screaming if this deal with Owens goes through. Just wait. Not every Storm fan will complain, but I bet you see comments from Riggs or Tryon or others that are not positive about this, even though they have been doing it themselves for years. The shoe is on the other foot now.

You rarely see team owners or GM's complain about it. A lot were complaining last year and even got the league to investigate the Storm over their dealings, so that's not really true.

The internet is really buzzing over the Terrell Owens to Allen Wranglers circus. Even if the deal doesn't happen, which it is very likely, the IFL has certainly increased it's awareness over this. I doubt they'll get too much of an attendance boost over it though, although Allen would if they do sign Owens. If they do sign him, it will probably finish the team is my prediction.
