A new UIFL team has been announced. They are doing a name the team contest! Let me be the first to suggest the Danville Dapper Dans. OK, not the best name but they'd have squeaky hair from a fictional product from O'Brother but it's all good!

CANTON, OH - The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL), is pleased to announce that the 3rd expansion team for the 2012 season is Danville, IL.

Danville will play in the Northern Division of the UIFL and will begin play in March 2012. The team will play their home games at the Palmer Arena in Danville, IL. The Palmer Arena seats 2,500 fans.

In an effort to get the fans involved the Danville team will hold a name the team contest. To suggest a name go to www.theuifl.com The contest will run until July 7th, and a press conference to formally announce the team name, and logo will be held in late July or early August. One winner will be selected and receive four (4) season tickets for the Danville team, and everyone who suggests the winning name will receive two (2) free tickets to the home opener.

At the press conference the UIFL will also announce ownership, front office staff, and more.

"We are excited to be working with Peter, and his staff at the Palmer Arena. We look forward to a long term relationship with the Palmer arena, and the city of Danville." Stated UIFL Co-Founder Andrew Haines.

Single game tickets will start at $7.00. Season tickets start at $42.00. The team will play 7 home games at the Palmer Arena starting in March 2012.

Danville, IL joins other 2012 expansion teams Rome, GA, and Fort Myers, FL. Additional teams in the UIFL Southern Division will be announced over the next few months.

This isn't the first team Haines has put in Danville, Illinois. When Haines ran the AIFL he started up the Danville Demolition in 2006. The AIFL became the AIFA for the 2007 season and Haines was ousted from the league. The Demolition began play under new ownership, went 1-12, and then folded.

Indoor Football in Danville

DANVILLE - It's been four years since the city has seen an indoor football team, and now another league is moving in.

The Ultimate Indoor Football League,UIFL, announced it will start a team in Danville. The organization is expanding to three locations, including Rome, GA., and Fort Myers, FL.

"We're very excited about it," explained Peter Blackmon, general manager of the Palmer Arena.

The league said it chose Danville because of the fan base and the size of the arena. This won't be a first for the facility, the Danville Demolition indoor football team played at the Palmer Arena back in 2006.

The arena will host seven home games for the new team and kick off won't be until next March.

"The first game we have back in 2006 was a sell out right around 2,400 seats and that's what we could sit int he arena permanent seating and we're expecting a full house again for football, so again we're very excited about the prospect of football," said Blackmon.

The Danville Demolition lasted a year, and in 2007 owner John Christner decided to sell the team.
They only had one win.

"All we can do is write the best contract we can that's best for both parties, and we feel like we've done so," said Blackmon. "We feel like we've sort of covered our ground and from there we will work with the ownership to help them be successful, but of course we're always worried about those types of things."

Fans get a say in the teams name. The league has a contest on it's website where people can suggest team names until July 7th. Someone could win four season tickets to the Danville team, and people who suggest the winner gets two free tickets to the first home game.

In either July or August, the team will announce who the owner, front staff, and coach is. They are still taking applications for head coach.

They'll have tryouts for players in August and September for team players.
