Undefeated in First Year? (and only year? - BC)
April 7, 2012
The Ontario Warriors are off to a 4-0 start. The teams they have beaten, Arizona Outlaws and California Eagles, currently occupy the second and third spots in the five team AIF West. More impressive than the 4-0 start, is that the Warriors have yet to be challenged. Their average margin of victory is 31 points. Another impressive factor is they are doing it with mostly local talent. Of the thirty players on the roster, twenty are from within thirty minutes of the arena. Fans are able to watch players from Riverside, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, San Bernadino, West Covina and more. If you think these are over the hill high school stars, you'd be wrong. The average age is 25 and some you may see in NFL camps. Indoor Football leagues put six players in the NFL this past season and by all looks of it the Warriors are the class of indoor football.
At a January 5th press conference to announce the team, Team President Tom Mitchell guaranteed that the Warriors would win the championship in their inaugural season. Recently Mitchell stated "This team is playing great. The coaching staff has done a great job of bringing these guys together and really building a team. As good as they're playing; we haven't seen the best of them yet. They are improving every week. What makes me proud is how hard they work at practice and how quick they raise their hands when asked who's available to go to a boys and girls club, school or donate their time. That's when I see we really have something here. It's not just the players, the coaches are right there with them. It won't be long before the community will get to know these guys and see what I see. We're excited about what we are building here.
The Warriors play their home games at the Citizens Business Bank Arena. For anyone not familiar with indoor football, it's more than a game. It's an event. Pregame festivities generally start two hours prior to kickoff and include live music, video game zones, food and beverage and who knows what else they will add. Once the game starts, pay attention because at anytime you could catch a football( which you get to keep), catch a T-shirt, join an on field contests like kick for a new Toyota Tundra or have a player jump into the stands and give you a high five. Even after they win the fun isn't over. Warriors fans are invited onto the field to meet and greet the players and dancers, get autographs and mingle. Afterwards fans are invited to the post game party (most recently at the Pizza Factory) to join the team for food and fun. It truly is a sport for the fans.
Warriors fans are also pleased to know that is affordable entertainment for the whole family. Ticket prices range from $10 -$35. Anyone who has been to the Citizens Business Bank Arena knows there is no bad seat in the house.
The Warriors head up to Stockton to finish their road schedule on April 21st before returning home for a season ending five game home stand (April 29, May 5, May 12, May 20 and May 28).
The Warriors would like to see more fans come out and be part of what they are building. It's very possible that when they take the field on April 29th they are 5-0 and the fans are cheering for a team on their way to an undefeated regular season and a championship in their sights.
