GAME 23 PREVIEW | CHICAGO BLISS AT LOS ANGELES TEMPTATION
By: Jim Wallin (LFL360.com)
The LFL’s most storied rivalry continues on Thursday as the Chicago Bliss travel to southern California to face the Los Angeles Temptation in a critical match-up for both teams.
For the Temptation, a win cliches the franchise’s third consecutive playoff berth while a loss eliminates the two-time defending champions. In Chicago’s case, a win-less home season very likely will prove to be their undoing, as the Bliss’ faint playoff hopes are largely dependent on not only their first-ever win against L.A., but require a 50-point margin of victory to ensure the franchise’s third consecutive playoff berth as well.
Should Chicago defeat Los Angeles by less-than-49 points, the Seattle Mist will move on to the playoffs, leaving both teams out in the cold.
After enduring a turbulent off-season, the Chicago Bliss welcomed back veteran head coach Keith Hac and 2010-11 LFL MVP Heather ‘Rockstar’ Furr in what Windy City fans hoped would be another final four season. However, what once looked like a competitive rookie class did not translate into wins, as Chicago suffered their first and second-ever defeats at home to begin 0-2. Now, after a 40-33 road win against the Minnesota Valkryie, the Bliss still remain in the playoff conversation, in large part thanks to the emergence of RB ChrisDell ‘Ferrari’ Harris, who ranks second in the entire league in rushing yards-per-game, yards-per-carry and is well on her way to being the second-leading rusher on the season and first in the Western Conference.
Los Angeles enters the action after a key, last-minute win versus Seattle which ultimately saved their season. Though the Temptation have struggled mightily so far this season in the passing game, the recent return of multi-champion head coach David Bizub gives fans hope that the team’s overall play can improve enough to make the playoffs and, at least, compete for a third consecutive Lingerie Bowl Championship.
The Temptation are led by 2012 All-Fantasy candidate Amber Reed on offense and the combination of Ogom Chijindu and Monique Gaxiola on defense. And don’t forget about Lingerie Bowl VIII MVP QB Ashley Salerno, who, in spite of an inconsistent year statistically, is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league as well as rookie WR Chloe Butler and veteran WR Gegi Van De Walker.
