The Kansas Koyotes took home another meaningless title in what could be the worst APFL season ever, and that's saying something. This past season was almost as bad as the NIFL's last season 2 years ago, with folding teams, no shows, replacement players, replacement teams, etc, etc. To top it off, the Beaumont Drillers were brought back into the league after folding in May to play the Koyotes in the title game last week...wtf???
There are rumors that teams will leave the league this off-season, although I'm not sure that means anything to the league. Most of the teams are semi-pro anyway and can easily be replaced with other semi-pro teams. The one semi-pro team worth anything is the Springfield Wolfpack, who actually beat the pro-Iowa Blackhawks this season. Iowa is also a great team who deserves better than the APFL and perhaps could be an expansion team in the IFL (crossing my fingers). Kansas has great players, but are hurt by being owned by Ralph Adams, who also runs the league...a huge conflict of interest and that has been proven each and every year of the APFL's existence. Beaumont and Conroe folded, but could come back to join another league, or even be brought back by Adams as shells of their former selves as semi-pro teams next year...he's done it before (ref: Missouri Minutemen).
Whatever the future holds for the league, it is anything but bright. A few pro teams playing a puffcake semi-pro schedule to pad the wins on, then forfeits in the playoffs, and a team that hadn't played in over 2 months gets an automatic spot in the title game.
It's not even close to being as big as the NIFL was so a lot of people haven't even heard of it, but noneless its as much a blight on the sport as the NIFL was in the end and it needs to just die.
